Bhaktapur is a tiny town next to Kathmandu. While it is only 6 miles from Kathmandu, with traffic it takes about 30 minutes to reach Bhaktapur. The city is a gateway to some of the best of Kathmandu's getaways and day hikes. However, the big draw of Bhaktapur are the temples and Royal Palace found around the city.
Bhaktapur is an ancient Newari city, the name means the place of devotees. It's a beautiful city only 13km away from Kathmandu. Bhaktapur has the best-preserved palace courtyards and old city center in Nepal and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, but unfortunately some of the buildings are badly damaged from the 2015 earthquake.
It is the capital of Nepal in the 15 th century and now became popular destination.
