Relaxing Stay
Its French style decor and garden makes it look nice and different from other city hotels.
My stays at HighGates have always been good.
The hotel is of good standard, the rooms are quite big, clean, bed linen, tea, coffee and bath amenities are of good quality. The staff are courteous and helpful.
They have 3 restaurants on site.
White Room is a cozy open concept restaurant where breakfast, lunch and dinner is served.
They also have a pastry corner.
The breakfast menu is limited but it’s good.
The decor and style of the restaurant is beautiful as it’s surrounded by a small but well maintained garden.
Roomali Restaurant is the Indian Restaurant. The decor is nice, the staff are welcoming. You can opt for seating either inside or outside on the terrace.
The choice on their menu is varied.
The food is tasty and service is good too.
The restaurant is busy with in-house guests as well as locals.
I’ve experienced their cuisine during my various stays and I like it.
The Mandarin Box with its open concept is a relaxed place with tables and benches around.
The menu is a limited one, where guests can select the dishes, order, collect and pay. One can enjoy the food while being seated in the open in the garden.
During my last stay I informed the
General Manager that the rooms and bathrooms were dated and required a good refurbishment.
He took my suggestions into account and mentioned they’re working on it.
Despite the issues mentioned I would like to stay at HighGates for its location, staff and service.

Nice Stay
As I was travelling on my own and just had few days I opted for HighGates due to its location and proximity to MG, Brigade Road and also the hustle and bustle of Church Street.
HighGates Hotel is a nice hotel and the staff are good too.
I arrived at the property at 03:00 am and the Night Manager greeted me with a smile and said “welcome back and it’s nice to have you again at HighGates”. There was not much formalities to be done as I already had paid for the booking. The porter picked my luggage and I went directly to my room.
The room is good with all the amenities free wifi, bottles of water, tea, coffee station, TV, King size bed with clean and comfy bed linen, bathroom amenities are good too.
The hotel has 3 restaurants inside the property.
1). White Room where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served. You can either opt to sit inside or outside in the covered terrace. The architecture is pretty colonial style and guest feels relaxed in that ambience with a well maintained garden and greeneries. The menu card is not much elaborated yet the food is good. During my stay I saw many non-residents coming for breakfast meeting or family breakfast there.
They also have a pastry corner. I haven’t tasted it though but the cakes on display looked delicious.
I only had breakfast there which is good.
Roomali Restaurant is their Indian Restaurant and the restaurant has a nice decor and has seating inside and outside on the terrace. They have a varied choice on their menu. The restaurant is quite full most of the time and the food is tasty. I’ve eaten there on several occasions and I enjoyed the experience.
The Mandarin Box is an open concept one where you have benches and tables outside. They have a limited menu where guests come, select their dishes, order, pay and collect the food and eat. It has a nice garden around too. It’s bit noisy as it’s in the open and the tables and benches are quite close. Food is simple and tasty. I enjoyed eating there especially at night as I watched the stars and moon as I was on my own.
The only downside is the rooms, bathrooms are worn out and really need a good renovation. The property looks dated.
One thing which I really didn’t appreciate is that guests using room service just leave their plates outside the room. This is so unhygienic, lack of respect towards the hotel property and other guests. I believe management should address the matter to guests. I spoke to Mr Viktor the General Manager about it. Hope things would change for the better.
HighGates location and staff is an asset for this property.
I would like to stay there on my next trip.
