Lido Hotel = Scammers. Avoid at all costs.

I paid 200 euros in full for a stay from May 7-12. My flight was delayed, I informed them, but they ignored me. After spending the night at the airport, they canceled my booking without my consent, kept all my money, and left me with no room. I had to find and pay for another hotel. They are thieves. Do not book here.

Horror House

On arrival at Hotel Lido, after a very uncomfortable walk through a rough neighbourhood with lots of homeless and intoxicated people, we were met by an unfriendly receptionist who slapped the keys and TV remote onto the desk with no hello. The lift up to the room was like something out of a horror movie. The corridors smelt of cigarette smoke and lots of noise was heard from the surrounding rooms. On entry to the room, the smell of cigarette smoke was so strong and there was even an ashtray in the room. Although the room had had a room keeping service (beds were made, bins empty), it was far from clean. Stained towels with visible brown dirt, crumbs on the desk, hairs in the bed, stains on the top blanket on the bed, took our shoes off and white socks quickly turned black from the dirty floor. There was no toilet seat attached to the toilet and metal bolts pointing up, we were on the 5th floor and the balcony door was barely attached to the wall and then did not lock, and there was structural damage to the balcony rail. The shower was just a shower hose attached to the wall, no shower door or curtain. The tap was clinging on for dear life. There was only 1 plug in the room, and the rest of the light switches were not securely attached to the walls. We arrived at 23:30 so had no option but to stay the night. We did not sleep in the bed but on top of the bed due to the aforementioned hairs, and the bed was all springs. TV and aircon did not work. Lots of noisy neighbours during the night with slamming doors, shouting in the corridors and other guests being a general nuisance. We had originally booked 2 nights a Hotel Lido, but quickly decided we did not want to stay for a second and booked an alternative hotel. On check out, a second unfriendly receptionist did not so much as look up from her desk. An all round awful experience.

Arrived at hotel lido at about 1am and were immediately warned by our taxi driver to be extremely cautious at all times in this area as it is not nice and people can be extremely dangerous and unpredictable. We walked in to check in and were met by one of the rudest men I've met in my life. He barely spoke to us, more spoke in grunts and barely acknowledged our existence. Didn't give us any information on check out or rules ect. The noise outside was as if the hotel was in the middle of a night club with people shouting and music blaring. We got into the room and it was for lack of a better description a dodgy, sweat box. We did not get a double bed, just the two singles which was okay as we seen that it was part of our confirmation that they would try give us a double if possible. My partners bed after she lifted the sheets to get in seen a massive burn hole through the sheet onto the mattress which was not a pleasant sight to see. The next morning we got up to head down to the acropolis and as we were walking to the door when another receptionist, this time a woman, demanded our keys saying angrily and rudely that we cannot leave the hotel with the keys, obviously me confused at the situation, never having to leave keys before when staying in a hotel anywhere in Europe and the rest of the world, I been questioned it. She just continued angrily saying give me the keys now holding out her hand as if to summon the keys and pointing at a sign, saying leave keys at reception, which to any other person would mean for check-out, especially when you were not given any information the night before checking in that that was a rule. Also when we came back to the room the cleaner who had just "cleaned" our room was just standing outside our door smoking a cigarette, which for two non smokers was just disgusting and dirty. The shower was in nice terms a dog bath which we were both disgusted by and didn't use for fear of our own health and safety. It was pretty much a tap on the wall with no divider or curtain that if used would most definitely flood the entire room. The toilet seat was cracked there was no soaps or amenities provided in the bathroom and bugs crawling around the bathroom floor.
Overall this place is a dump, horrible staff, horrible area, horrible hotel. Stay away and do more research than we did and you will enjoy your stay in Athens a lot more than us. There is a lot of false reviews out there but I promise when I say that, this is a horrible place and a place to avoid especially for female travellers even if you are with other people.
