Located about four hours by bus from Phnom Penhm, Kampong Cham Cambodia's third largest city has a cool vibe and interesting culture. Sitting on the banks of the Mekong River it has a mix of both Buddhists and Muslims. The city has some buildings with nice French architecture. Very few tourists seem to come here which give the city a very natural feel. One of the highlights is visiting Koh Paen which is an island in the Mekong and to reach it you must go over a bamboo bridge about 1 km long. The island is very relaxed and wonderful to take a bike and ride about - there are some impressive Buddhist temples here as well.
Small untouristy city along the Mekong with some fascinating ruins at Nokor Wat. Best thing to do is just rent a scooter and slowly ride through villages waving hi and stopping to chat with anyone who waves you down.
Nice and quiet but still enough to do for a few days.
It's nice quiet town.
