If you are traveling by car to the Albanian Riviera you cant avoid Tirana. I wouldn't say that it was a great place, driving here is crazy and it is very hot and hectic in summer, but the culture of this place is for sure something to experience.

Tirana is one of those cities that I enjoyed more than I thought I would, and one of the main reasons is because of the Albanian people themselves that are very high-spirited and seem to really enjoy life. One of my favorite areas in this the largest city in Albania is called the Blloku Dirstrict an area of approximately fifteen blocks dedicated to cafes, restaurants, and bars. The city's grand central boulevards contain an interesting mix of the Ottoman, Italian and communist past.

The capital city of Albania. There is a bigger array of cuisine and a bountiful nightlife, compared to the rest of the country. I like to refer to it as a mini NYC because of the traffic, noise and amount of people.

A fascinating mix of faded communism and burgeoning modernism. Tirana is a charming city with excellent restaurants, friendly people, and just the right mix of modern sophistication and old world charm. Unfairly branded as crime ridden and poverty stricken, Tirana is an unexpected surprise.
