Valencia is one of Spain’s largest cities, and is served by the Valencia Airport (VLC). This facility is well-equipped with amenities, offering information desks, WiFi access, telephones, ATMs, foreign exchange counters, a good range of retailing outlets—including duty-free—and a range of restaurants offering international and local cuisine options. Extras include a VIP lounge, and medical services.

You only need to travel 8km to reach the city centre, and you can do so via the Metro, the public buses or taxis, which you can pick up just outside the terminal buildings. A trip into town should come to around 20EUR ($29).

Things to do in Valencia

Sifting through the cultural heritage sites of this city is a great joy, as there are buildings that emerge from every era in this city. Visit Valencia’s own Gothic cathedral, whose stones rest upon a mosque built by the Moors. The inter-generational renovations give this church an eclectic exterior that still manages to look cohesive. Then there is the 18^th century Church of Saint Thomas and Saint Philip, with its deep blue-tiled dome that is striking beneath the Mediterranean sun.

Then step away from the ecclesiastical sites for the Lonja de Seda, another building in the Gothic style, but erected for the purpose of selling silks (for which the city was famous for producing). The building is exquisitely maintained and will allow you to imagine yourself trading in the Silk Exchange over 500 years ago.

Culture vultures can hit the museums and galleries, highlights include the Fine Arts Museum, the Museum of Religious Art, and the Valencia Institute of Modern Art. If you want to involve the kids, we suggest heading down to the City of Arts and Sciences, a stunning architectural complex that houses an IMAX theatre, a planetarium, and an interactive science museum.

For the best in the way of beaches, head out to Playa del Salar, less than 20km from the centre of the city, and absolutely pristine, with long golden shores, and turquoise waters you can swim in.

Best time to visit Valencia

·         Spain is renowned for its gorgeous climate, and Valencia is no exception. From the spring (March-may) season onwards, you won’t see temperatures dip below 14°C, rising to up to 30°C when Valencia enters the summer (June-August).

·         Autumns are warm, and tend to hover between 22-24°C, and are a good time to tour the city.

·         Winters are mild, but can sink to 7°C, so pack some warm layers.

·         A journey to Valencia will involve two layovers, usually in Singapore (SIN), Zurich (ZRH), Doha (DOH), and Frankfurt (FRA).
