Kayseri Airport has recently undergone upgrades to its facilities and capacity allowances, and as such passengers will find the airport decently equipped; with a café, a newsagent, access to a health unit and car rental facilities.

Airlines to Kayseri

Most airlines flying to Kayseri are either domestic carriers, or only operate flights to and from other parts of Turkey. These are AtlasGlobal, Borajet, Onur Air, and AnadoluJet, SunExpress.

However, there are some international carriers that fly routes to continental Europe. These are Corendon Auirlines, Pegasus Airlines, SunExpress, and Turkish Airlines. If you’re travelling outside of Europe you won’t find direct flights to this destination and will have to change in an air transport hub like Dusseldorf (DUS) or Amsterdam (AMS).

Getting into Kayseri

By taxi

Taxis are available and running from the airport 24 hours a day. The taxis into town are pretty cheap and cheerful, with most journeys into town costing between 20-60TRY ($9-28).

By public transport

There is a municipal bus that runs from the airport to the city centre every 20 minutes, and tickets cost about 2TRY (95 cents).

By car

There are five car hire companies that operate out of the airport, these are Alvis Tour, Arti Tour (Sixt), Avis, Filopark and Hertz. You will find the booths in the arrivals terminal.

What can you do in Kayseri?

Often a pit stop for travellers racing to get to the celebrated Cappadocia, this central city in Anatolia has its own unique charm, and staying to discover it is worth some of your time.

Sitting beneath the shadow of Mount Aergeus, the city of Kayseri holds wonders you really have to look for, but that doesn’t mean the searching isn’t fun. Visitors can wander the Seljuk and Ottoman architecture that is littered throughout the town, such as the Byzantine Citadel; built in the Middle Ages, this formidable fort is right in the heart of town. From there, drop into the Hunat Hatun Mosque, built by a great Seljuk Empress, the mosque was home to a theological school and a hamam. Lastly, spend some time in the Grand Bazaar of the city, where you can shop to your heart’s content in this cultural centre of activity.

Of course, Cappadocia shouldn’t be missed, it is one of the country’s most enchanting regions, with an unusual landscape that constantly has photographers nosing about trying to get that perfect shot. Visit the singular Göreme, buried in a hillside with rising peaks that punctuate the skyline. Or explore the Kaymaklı Underground City, chipped out of the rock in the 6^th and 7^th centuries, this remarkable labyrinth is a testament to human ingenuity.

When should you go?

Spring is a good time to visit Kayseri, as in summer the temperatures can soar to uncomfortable levels, and the winters can get surprisingly cold. Expect the seasons of April and May to stick around maxes of 18-23°C and average temperatures in the mid-teens.

Currency: The Turkish Lira (TRY)

Visas: Many visitors travelling to Turkey will need to apply for a visa. For those that do, the best way to find out is to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairsthat lists all requirements for foreigners wanting to visit the country. Please note, you will not be allowed on the flight without a valid visa.
