Both attractions will promise you an insight into Islam, and the birth of this cosmopolitan city.

Shoppers can hit up the lavish malls or the bustling marketplaces, and holidayers looking for sun and something to eat can go to Jumeirah, where cafes and restaurants line the golden beach that runs along the shoreline.

• Buses and metro services run between the airport and the centre of the city.

Any useful tips?

• Alcohol is prohibited in a lot places, but some hotels, bars and restaurants do sell it. Please be aware though that drinking in public, or being under the influence of alcohol in public is against the law.
• Please note that whilst you are able to wear swimsuits and bikinis by the pool and the resort beaches, it is advised that you change into modest clothing when leaving these areas.
