The center of Abu Dhabi is accessible from Abu Dhabi International Airport in just 30 minutes by vehicle. You essentially need to drive along one road, the E20, which eventually merges into 30th street. Dubai and Sharjah
Dubai is just over a one hour drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport and is directly connected to the city on the E11 highway. It is possible to take an alternative route to avoid the toll charges of the E11 by taking the E311 towards Al Maktoum International Airport before turning off onto the D53 and joining the E11. If you want to continue onwards to Sharjah all you need to do is stay on the E11 road for another 20-30 minutes and you’ll soon find yourself in gorgeous Sharjah.
If you are making the trip from the center of Abu Dhabi to Dubai or Sharjah it will take around one hour and 30 minutes and two hours respectively as it can take some time to make your way out of the city.
Al Ain is known as the Garden City in homage to its beautiful greenery and oases and is also within touching distance of Abu Dhabi by car. The quickest way to reach the city from Abu Dhabi International Airport is on the E22 which will take around one hour and 30 minutes, while from Abu Dhabi itself the journey is closer to two hours. Alternatively, you can also drive directly along the E20 which only adds 10 minutes or so into your trip.
