What to see & do

There are several places worth checking out during your visit in Cologne. Arguably the first thing that will catch your attention is the Kölner Dom (that is, if you’re taking the main exit from the central station). To reach the top of its south tower, you’ll have to take the 509 stairs – it’s worth it. There’s also the 12 Romanesque Churches, which each has their own historical, aesthetic, and cultural importance – St. Kunibert, St. Severin, St. Maria Lyskirchen, St. Andreas, St. Aposteln, St. Gereon, St. Ursula, St. Pantaleon, St. Maria im Kapitol, Groß-St. Martin, St. Georg, and St. Cäcilien; Die Kölner Synagoge, known for its stunning architecture; the popular Veedel - City Quarters, particularly the bohemian Agnesviertel, where one will surely enjoy wandering around in, with its streets lined up with independent designers, bookshops, bars, and art galleries, as well as historical monuments; and check out breathtaking architecture in Rheinauhafen (Harbour). Don’t forget to visit museums as well, since Cologne has one of the best collections of museums and galleries in the world. There’s Museum Ludwig, Museum für Angewandte Kunst, Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud, Römisch-Germanisches Museum, and Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum – World Cultures.
