Angola, officially the Republic of Angola, is a Southern African country bordered by Namibia to the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north, and Zambia to the east; with its west coast situated on the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital and largest city is Luanda, located on the Atlantic coast in the northwest of Angola. The country has three seasons: a dry season between May and October, a transitional season with some rain experienced between November and January, and a hot, rainy season between February and April, with April as the wettest month.

The major cities in Angola include Luanda – the capital, Benguela, Huambo, Lobito, Lubango, Namibe, Kuito, and Menongue. Angola’s capital, Luanda, is the country’s most populous city. It is also the most important city in Angola as it is the primary port and a major industrial, cultural, and urban centre. The Mussulo Island in the south of Luanda is a major tourism getaway, popular for its natural beauty as well as its friendly and accommodating locals. In the city of Benguela, Baia Azul in particular, more desert beaches can be explored as well as the city’s beautiful art deco architecture. Lobito City, on the other hand, is known for the Restinga Peninsula and ice cold draught Cuca beer. How to get around within Angola
Angola’s train system has three main lines: Caminho de Ferro de Luanda is the northern line that stretches from Luanda to Malenje; the middle line is Caminho de Ferro de Benguela, running between Lobito, Cubal, and Huambo, as well as Luau at the border of Zambia; and the southern route is Caminho de Ferro de Mocamedes, running between Namibe, Lubango, and Menongue. Angola also has 76,626 kilometres of highway, 19,156 of which is paved; as well as 1,295 navigable inland waterways and eight major sea ports. When travelling on roads outosde of towns and cities in the country, it is advised to drive 4x4 vehicles.
