Downtown Jackson
For easy access to the city’s finest architecture, state-of-the-art museums and best shops and restaurants, base yourself Downtown. Visit the Mississippi State Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion. Catch a Broadway show or a performance by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. Or stretch your legs on a walking trail to get the lowdown on the Civil Rights movement.

Fondren
Home to art galleries, boutiques and retro buildings, Fondren is Jackson’s go-to neighbourhood for urban cool. Catch a film at the beloved Capri Theatre, go bowling at Highball Lanes or take a tour of the area’s colourful street murals. With two dozen restaurants, bars and cafes within a four-block area, Fondren is also a top choice for foodies.

Belhaven
This hip, historic residential district is home to Belhaven University. Wander leafy streets lined with Antebellum mansions, boutiques and restaurants. Be sure to take a tour of the home and garden of author Eudora Welty. If you’re feeling energetic, rent a bike and explore the Belhaven Mountain Bike Trails, which lead all the way Downtown.

Take in the culture
Jackson’s museums will take you deep into the city’s past. Start your exploration at the Museum Trail, a 3-mile multi-use trail connecting the museums in LeFleur Bluff State Park (the Museum of Natural Science and the Children’s Museum) with the History Museum and Civil Rights Museum Downtown. At the end of the day you’ll feel both enriched and energised from all the walking.
