 Tokyo Narita Airport

Tokyo Narita Airport (NRT) is one of two major airports that facilitates flights into Japan’s capital city. The other is Haneda Airport (HND), which Narita has replaced as the primary hub for international traffic. Servicing the capital for over 45 years, Narita International Airport sees millions of passengers looking to explore the vibrant city of Tokyo.

Passengers flying into Narita will be able to take advantage of the airport’s modern facilities, whilst still having easy access into the centre of town. Enjoy the food options at this airport, from Japanese cuisine to international brands and foods. The shopping here is also very comprehensive, with duty-free outlets, souvenir stores, pharmacies, and designer boutiques, you’ll find plenty to browse at Narita. There are also neat extras like massage chairs, excellent lounges, showers, medical check-in centres, hire-sleep rooms, and places where restless children can play.

There are lots of airlines that offer flights to Tokyo, but ones from Australia tend to be Japan Airlines, Qantas, Jetstar, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Qatar Airways, Scoot, Vietnam Airlines, Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, EVA Air, United, Xiamen Airlines, Aircalin, British Airways, Philippine Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.

Travel Information

· If you’d like to drive whilst in Tokyo, there are reliable car hire agencies run by Japanese companies like Nissan, Toyota and Nippon, and you can find them in both Terminals 1 and 2. Otherwise, you can sort out a rental quickly and easily with Skyscanner’s car hire search tool. The drive in is around 65km and will take about an hour and a half in light traffic. Get on the Shin-Kuko Expressway, and then merge onto Keiyo Road, which will take you straight into town.

· The fastest way into the city is undoubtedly via the high-speed railway service called the Narita Skyliner. You will have to change at Nippori onto the Yamanote Line, but this is easy and self-explanatory. For both modes, you are looking at about 2700JPY ($35) in total, and journey duration of about 50 minutes.

· Buses also run services between the airport and the centre of town; these take roughly an hour and a half, and usually come to about 3000JPY ($39).

· Taxis are available but can be very pricey, as this is a long journey to run against a meter. Expect the fare to be around 20,000-25,000JPY ($2650-325). Of course, you can arrange an airport transfer, which can be booked online, and tends to be the far cheaper option to a cab ride.
