Langkawi Airport

Langkawi International Airport (LGK) operates flights to the exotic and breathtaking Langkawai, a pristine archipelago made up of sugary beaches, turquoise waters and tropical forests. Originally an airfield for the Japanese in World War 2, the Langkawi International Airport now welcomes over two million passengers a year seeking a piece of paradise.

There is only one main terminal, and this services both the international and national flights into Langkawi. Passengers will find a duty-free shopping area in the arrivals hall, as well as a Skymall which both offer a variety of products you can purchase for yourself or for loved ones, though it should be noted that the island itself is a duty-free zone, so you can pick up great gifts outside the airport if you wish. For refreshments, you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat at a few different outlets, including Starbucks. There are two premium lounges if you want to relax while you wait, free WiFi throughout the terminal building, ATMs, and banking services all at your disposal.

Airlines flying to Langkawi include Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air, Emirates, AirAsia, Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. Departing from Australia will mean a connection in Singapore (SIN), or Kuala Lumpur (KUL).

Getting to Pantai Cenang should take 10 minutes; head northwest on Route 168, and then turn left onto Jalan Kuala Muda (Route 115). After 6km, turn right to reach Cenang. For Pantai Tengah, you need to drive a little further south. The directions are the same except after the Jalan Kuala Muda (Route 115), you need to turn left on the Jalan Bohor Tempoyak (Route 154), then hang a right on Jalan Kedawang (Route 116), then another right on Jalan Pantai Tengah (Route 117).

· Taking a taxi is the most popular way to get into the main resorts of Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah. These are set at fixed prices, and you buy a coupon for the journey within the airport: to Pentai Cenang the journey costs 18MYR ($6), and to Pentai Tengah 20MYR ($6.50).
