The Cape Town International Airport (CPT) is the main airport for Cape Town, and one of the busiest in the country. You can find everything you need here, as there are cash machines, currency exchange, free WiFi, restaurants, bars, duty-free shops, and retail outlets, all at your disposal.

There are two terminals at Cape Town International Airport, but these are within walking distance of one another.

Leave at least 1 hour to arrive at the airport, and pass through for a domestic route.

Arriving in Johannesburg

Johannesburg is served by the O.R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), which is the principal airport in South Africa. Travellers can take out money at one of the ATMs, contact loved ones through the free WiFi or the internet kiosks, or sort out mobile phone hire for the duration of your stay at one of the service desks located in the airport. Restaurants and bars serve hot meals, drinks, and snacks, and there are a good variety of cuisine options to choose from if you are feeling peckish after disembarking. Shops selling gifts, souvenirs, jewellery, travel accessories, and books also litter the concourse, and make for a convenient pit-stop if there is anything you forgot to buy in Cape Town.

A complimentary shuttle bus can move you between the two terminals of this airport.

If you take a taxi, make sure you hop into an officially designated car, and these leave from right outside the Arrivals Area of the airport. A typical route into town will take 30-45 minutes all up, and come to a fare of 500ZAR ($52).
