Saturday dinner

Visited for dinner.
Ambience good. Busy on a Bank Holiday Saturday.
Food very tasty and well cooked. Rump stake cooked to order and delicious.
Serving staff friendly and efficient.
Food very good value for money. Portions generous and well presented.

Drinks….

Popped in for a drink after a day at the beach…we live within an hour of Brancaster.
Spent many evenings in this pub with friends over the years, so we were interested to see the new decor etc.
Greeted by a super friendly barman who was welcoming and chatty, we took our drinks outside to the ‘courtyard’.
Bench seats lined up, under a huge canopy with heaters which will be great for inclement weather.
Lots of metal chairs and tables which are really uncomfortable, I know cushions mean extra work but something is needed, the outside bar area which could have looked great was piled up with junk on one side and looked a mess, this was at 17.30 and 30 degrees.
Planters neglected, weeds growing out of the brickwork, feel this is another pub which has been ‘bought’ and banged out with a trendy update.
The ‘Birdcage’ seating is dangerous and I would be seriously concerned that one of these structures could fall forward and collapse, my wife sat on a long grey garden style seat, if she had leant back it would have collapsed, she is 5ft 8 and with in proportion to height before you might think otherwise !!
The pretty cart outside selling ice cream looked beautiful, but please address your outdoor area :)

Lovely place and staff- let down for us by very salty overpriced food

Clean. Airy. Pleasant kind staff. Enough staff. On this occassion the food was poor and expensive.
We have stayed here and eaten: it was really good. This was in 2023 before a change of ownership.
It seems busy enough: so perhaps we caught them at a bad time.
Food:
Scampi too firm and salty, a struggle to eat.
Seafood linguini again over salted.
Chips salty.
We were too polite to send it back -
We didn’t have sides - but had some salads - ( cherry tomatoes and some greens )
The pudding was pleasant
Menu was small and the price was high for the quality.

Poor

Called in yesterday with my wife and grandchildren, it was 14.30 so went straight to the bar and asked if they were still doing food, answer was yes, I then said we only want sandwiches is that ok, no problem. I place a drink order of 4 and am given a menu which I give to my wife. I take the first 2 drinks to the table to be informed by said wife there are no sandwiches on the menu!!
I return to the bar and say “you don’t do sandwiches do you” “no we don’t” was the reply and I got a smile when he said it.
I guess I should have said I don’t want the drinks then and walked out.
It looked a nice place but I’ll never return.

If the food isn't good it doesn't matter how the place is decorated.

The limited (standard) menu meant that I went for the rump steak. I should have paid attention to the fact that I was getting just that, some chips and a bit of greenery.
My first impression was that all the moisture has been sucked out of the meat. I accepted I asked for well done but when I cut into it, it was dry. I thought things could get no worse but then I tasted it. There appeared to be a rub of pure salt on it which along with the salty fries left me glugging glasses of water and trying to mask the taste with the small pot of mayonnaise.
I looked at the pudding menu but again the limited choice meant we were left disappointed.
The staff were friendly and attentive (asking more than once was everything ok). Having subsequently read other reviews this is clearly asking in hope rather than expectation.
Decor not my cup of tea but it seems all the creative energy has gone into that and not the food offering.
Style over substance. Very disappointing.
