Storybook Setting in Morcote
Fabulous location in the tiny village of Morcote!! Al Battello is a restaurant that rents rooms, but that is what makes it all the more charming. Shayla was absolutely fantastic, checking us in to the room, giving us great local guidance, and helping us to get in our lunch order before the chef left for mid day. YUM! The lunch and dinner were fantastic and huge. Shayla also helped us find some entry points to the lake for swimming during the steamy heatwave. She truly made our stay very special. As this was during the recent heatwave, the room had a Penguino brand "swamp cooler" provided, and we are happy to report that it worked great and we had a fabulous night of cool sleep. *Note that there is no lift to the rooms, so you must be able to walk on cobbled walkways and several flights of stairs to the rooms. The restaurant and rooms are right next to the lake, with a lovely view. The local boat stop sits right out front and there is a local bus to get you to take you around the area. Parking is up the street about 7 minutes, in a newer, paid parking garage. We paid approximately $18 US for approx 18 hours of parking, which we thought was very reasonable. Parking around town is otherwise very scarce. (We rented a car, but, you can take a train to Lugano, and then take a bus into Morcote as well.) The room, although in a gorgeous older historical building, was updated and had a modern bathroom. Our room, #3, was on the third floor with a direct view of the lake. At the time of our visit, the town was incredibly quiet. Keep in mind that restaurants generally are NOT open all day, so plan accordingly for lunch and dinner. There are a few shops, gelato and coffee spots nearby. We ate lunch and dinner at Al Battello, and it was fantastic, with huge portions. I only wish I had had a place to stow and reheat my leftovers! We had a fantastic time at Al Battello and highly recommend it!

Cooked with passion, served with heart.
The Al Battello Restaurant has become a truly special place for us, almost a second home.
The atmosphere is splendid: you dine under an authentic arch with a wonderful view of Lake Lugano. Just the location alone is worth a visit.
The kitchen impresses with its freshness and quality. Here, one can still feel the true passion for cooking. The vegetables are hand-cut, and the dishes are prepared on the spot with great care. The new chef Dario cooks with enthusiasm and passion, always with a smile on his face, and this is reflected in his dishes.
A special thanks goes to Sheila. In addition to serving with professionalism and attention, she always finds time to exchange a few words with the guests. She is friendly, communicative, attentive, and speaks four languages fluently. She makes you feel immediately welcome.
Our dogs were also welcomed with great kindness and immediately received a bowl of fresh water, a gesture we greatly appreciate.
The quality-price ratio is excellent. The portions are generous, the ingredients always fresh, and the wine list offers an excellent selection.
Living in Morcote, we often visit Al Battello and have never been disappointed. It is a place where one feels good, eats very well, and always returns with pleasure.
