A Great Budget Option for a Short Stay in Negombo
Since my flight was at 2 AM, I was looking for an affordable hotel where I could rest for a few hours, leave my luggage safely, and spend most of the day exploring the city. Considering the price, Blue Breeze turned out to be one of the best choices I could have made for this purpose.
This place does not really have a traditional hotel lobby :) In fact, the café/restaurant in front of the rooms also acts as the reception area, and check-in is handled by the restaurant cashier. The lady managing the place was very kind and respectful, and even though I arrived around 12 PM, they gave me the room two hours earlier than the official check-in time without any issue.
The rooms are located in the building across from the restaurant on the first floor, and unfortunately there is no elevator. The staff kindly carried our luggage upstairs when we arrived, although when checking out at night there was no staff available, so I had to bring the luggage downstairs myself.
For a budget hotel, the cleanliness of the room and bathroom was acceptable, although there was definitely room for improvement and I personally felt the bedsheets could have been washed better. The room itself was small, with a simple and minimalist design in both the room and bathroom.
One interesting detail was that the towels and toiletries such as soap and shampoo were all branded with Jetwing Blue. Jetwing Blue is a luxury 5-star hotel located directly across the street, and I believe Blue Breeze is probably the budget-friendly sister property of that hotel. We were also told that we could use the pool and beach facilities of Jetwing Blue for free simply by showing our room key, which was honestly a great bonus. When we visited Jetwing Blue, the staff there also welcomed us very warmly.
One of the biggest advantages of Blue Breeze is definitely its location. It is situated on one of the most tourist-friendly streets in Negombo — full of restaurants, souvenir shops, cafés, and tourists. I honestly enjoyed this area even more than some of the tourist streets in Colombo.
Overall, for a short stay and considering the affordable price, I would definitely recommend Blue Breeze. Negombo itself turned out to be a very beautiful and enjoyable city, and I would absolutely recommend visiting it as well.
