A lovely place to stay in Mannar!

This guesthouse is fantastic - amazing value for money the rooms are comfortable and spotless, lovely new linen and towels like you find in hotels and tastefully decorated. Plus the setting is very nice - big airy balconies to sit and watch the palm trees and donkeys The staff were super helpful and the food they prepared for us absolutely delicious (some of the best I’ve had in SRI Lanka). I would highly recommend it and will definitely be going back to Mannar just to stay there again!

Decent place, good sized rooms.

Good for a family holiday or a short stay. Facilities are not that great here but is a decent place with friendly staff. Good access to the market area and places of interest like keeri beach, baobab tree, fort etc.

Wouldn’t Stay There Again

Infact I wouldn’t go to Manar again it’s a dump and there’s is nothing to do. We went so we could go to Adams Bridge where one can sometimes see India on a clear day however when we got there a resort has been built right on the farthest part and they wouldn’t let us in to look because we weren’t staying there . Seriously there should be a law against people monopolizing world wonders for private and greedy gain.
Anyway I regress Manar is filthy and sweet with very few places to eat. The locals actually make you nervous to walk around and if you have girls with you lock them in the house as the men around gawk creepily at them.
The Gateway Inn was disappointing after reading the great reviews I say to people in this site tell the truth as travelers rely on correct feedback when looking at places. While the main part of the house seemed clean the kitchen was disgusting with crockery and cutlery filthy. We didn’t even want to eat the brekky the next day that’s how grossed out we were. The rooms were average and bathrooms well below average - old smelly and unclean. The power cuts ina nd out all night making it impossible to cool the rooms down. We changed our stay from two nights to one and hightailed it out of there at the crack of dawn.
Overall I would not recommend this place to anyone it’s a waste of time to go to Manar.

Comfortable and clean rooms with excellent staff

Three of us went on a charity trip. The Hotel hosted us and looked after us so well. This included fine catering and laundery. The staff are very nice and friendly. It feels like living in a small palace in a small village. Would recommend highly!

Nice Clean Friendly Place!

We thought of visiting Madu church and thought we'll stay at Mannar since its just 1hours drive from Madu and then do a bit of sightseeing also afterwards.
We got there early morning around 5am on the 1st of March but Dinesh was ever pleasant and ever present showed us to our rooms and even was efficient enough to prepare some breakfast (chargeable). There were another 2 ladies who were also nice and they all spoke English. Dinesh was fluent in Sinhala as well! I was a bit ashamed that I hardly knew Tamil.
They also gave us directions to go to sightseeing places like the Biobab tree, Sir Fredrick North Bungalow etc
The room was clean and amenities adequate for the stay. The food was mostly String Hoppers, Pittu and Puri as breakfast. Dinner was a choice of Biryani, Fried Rice, String Hoppers, Dosai and Idly. Mostly Indian dishes but quite nice and probably homemade
The room rates were also economical with rates with A/C or non A/C
The only complaint is the toilet flushing system was not functioning properly! But we managed!
My family enjoyed the stay as everything and everyone made us feel homely!
Thank you and I will recommend this place to anyone as it has 8 rooms and it's good for a large group to stay in this 3 storey building. With that kind of hospitality so little can go wrong!
