Superb hotel in a quiet location with a lovely relaxing ambience.
Great hotel in a lovely beach front location. A nice one hour drive from the airport. Good size, comfortable bedroom with garden view. Bathroom was good too. Staff were friendly and efficient. Housekeeping were excellent and the level of cleanliness was very high. The half board option is highly recommended as there was a great choice of quality foods for both breakfast and dinner. Great cafe overlooking the pool for delicious light meals. Superb seafood restaurant overlooking the beach. The pool is spacious and lovely to swim in during the day. There is a second pool in the upstairs beach club area with a gym and gazebo's available. Sunbeds on the grass area surrounding the pool and also the the patio area above the beach. A couple of small shops on site. The bus stop is a few minutes walk for a trip to Rota or the ferry ( wind dependent ) to beautiful Cadiz. The surrounding area is a lovely residential area with a few restaurants including a beach bar very close to the hotel. There is traditional entertainment such as Flamenco on a couple of nights during the week. The hotel has a lovely ambience ( no loud music, party games, etc and ideal for a relaxing, laid back experience. Great value and highly recommended.

A wonderful vacation
A wonderful vacation. The hotel is very good, it is very clean and the gardens are very well-kept. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. But the best thing about the hotel is its staff, all attentive and pleasant who make anything you might need easy.

Everything was perfect except for the room, which was for people with reduced mobility, and we were not informed of this at any time.
The bed was two beds instead of one.

Aunque estas habitaciones ofrecen los mismos estándares de confort y equipamiento, entendemos que determinadas características de su distribución pueden resultar diferentes a las esperadas.
Respecto a la configuración de las camas, tomamos igualmente nota de su comentario y lamentamos que no se ajustara a sus preferencias.

Amazing family holiday
We’ve just finished our week long stay in Hotel Playa de la Luz and we’re really sad to be leaving and would definitely look to return. Like the other reviews say, the hotel is very Spanish which is part of its charm.
When we first arrived we were allocated a small room but on enquiry were given a bigger room on the ground floor by the very helpful reception staff. This was perfect for our family.
We went with grandparents and a 5 year old and 7 year old. There was something for everyone. It was also the perfect size for us, not too big.
The kids were in and out of the kids club most days, the water carpet was out multiple times a day which was great fun (special mention due here for the wonderful lady life guard keeping a real close eye on the safety of all the kids), they joined in with water aerobics, dancing and football. There is table tennis and a pool table. The beach is right outside the hotel and the sea was lovely and warm. We watched the sunset on the beach a couple of nights. We also walked to Rota along the beach a couple of times, they had really toilets, bars and drinks carts at multiple parts along the way.
The food at the restaurant was lovely. There was so much variety for breakfast. The food in the other hotel restaurants was lovely and the prices for the food and drinks were very reasonable, with a large beer only costing €3.50 and a glass of wine €3.30.
We went to a lovely local cafe/bar called Martinica’s for lunch a couple of times and it’s only a 5-10 min walk from the hotel, would definitely recommend if you’re staying.

Not suitable for families with younger children.
Just returned from Playa del la luz.
This is deffinatly not a 4 hotel.
We would say more on the 3rating .
If you are staying in the older part of the hotel, rooms are small a quiet cramped for a family.
Fridge was put in the bathroom .
Apparently some areas have had re furnished rooms which is where they may gain a 4.
Kids club is all in Spanish and English children found them selves to be isolated due to the language barrier.
Life guards stopped all ball playing in the pool and removed any that were used for playing catch etc
Food at the pool bar was okay.
Food is the restaurant was also good but very repetitive.
Staff were polite.
Check what concerts are scheduled before you stay.
There is a local football stadium which hosted 2 gigs whilst we were there.
Started at 10pm and finished at 5/6 am.
The volume is so loud it was impossible to sleep. We complained to the hotel but there was no where to move to which was quieter due to the volume. It literally feels like it is outside your room. It's so loud.
We had no sleep at all for 2 consecutive nights . It was awful.
Rota is a short taxi ride away. Has a lovely beach and ice cream parlours but not much to do for children.
A few gift shops .We managed to walk around in about an hour shopping as so small.
This hotel and the area is more of a couples holiday and if you want relaxing its perfect.
For all families with children I would avoid . Its limited it what the area and hotel can offer for families.
It is very Spanish and I feel they need to decide whether they prefer it that way or they expand and relax on what is acceptable and enjoyable for families with children .
Will not be returning.

Concerning the pool rules, these are designed to ensure a safe and relaxing environment for all guests. For this reason, activities such as ball games are restricted in the main pool, allowing families, couples and guests seeking tranquillity to enjoy the facilities comfortably.
We are especially sorry that your stay coincided with the concerts held at the nearby municipal stadium. These events are organised by external entities and are beyond the hotel's control. We understand how frustrating the noise must have been and sincerely regret the inconvenience caused on those evenings.
