WONDERFUL STAY
The house is a historic house, very well preserved. Mary’s attention is wonderful, she is left to attend to you and make things easier for you.
Varied and hearty breakfast.
It is very well located, with sea and mountain views, close to Santa Cruz and other places in La Palma.

Discomfort in every way
We didn't like it at all. Super old rooms, with broken windows they supposedly can't fix, so it gets cold and windy. Entrance with very poor access, with a cobblestone ramp and doors that you hardly even enter. It says it has parking, but since there are two more people with a car at the same time you run out of room. And finally, and for us worst of all is the lady who runs the house. He tries to be friendly and helpful but doesn't take no for an answer. We felt intimidated constantly, the woman was after us! He came into the room more than once when we told him that please we didn't need anything! We ended up putting a chair in the door at night for fear! Every time we left he followed us to the car to tell us where we should go!!! And he even got in our way one morning for not eating the breakfast mango! We hallucinate... Ah and to top it off you have to talk whispering and without making noise and carry the bags weight in your hand and without rolling them because the lady does not want noise at home! So zero advisable if you go with children!

House with character
A very quick drive from the airport, yet no major air traffic noise. Received a warm welcome with some helpful tips. Our room had a lovely view beyond the very dry garden out to sea. Delightful sunrises! The breakfast was a delight, served on the terrace. The wifi struggled in the room. Some of the towels were almost threadbare. Restaurants were a drive away.

Delightful guest house
If you are driving to Finca (Dona) Arminda you need good instructions – the house is set back from the road and there is no sign with its name on. It is set high up on the steep hillside overlooking the SE coast of La Palma. There are excellent views out over the sea and the landscape – which is made up of scattered agricultural plots, small banana plantations and vineyards, and scattered housing. It is directly above the airport but noise isn’t a problem. You can distantly hear the aircraft engines winding up and down for take-off and landing but not once they are in flight (and there aren’t that many flights). The house is an attractive traditional-style building with a central, open courtyard surrounded by an enclosed corridor – off which all the rooms and staircases radiate. It is elaborately furnished in traditional ornate style with lots of catholic artefacts/pictures. It is 3 stories at the back (facing the sea) and one at the front. Rooms are furnished in a similar style and are well equipped (including large electric kettle, electric radiator, hair dryer and a very good fan heater). WiFi is available in a common lounge area but nowhere else. All the windows have wooden shutters which provide blackout conditions when closed. The plumbing is a bit antiquated and quirky but usually supplies very hot water. Our room was on the ground floor at the back with doors opening onto one of the many small gardens that surround the building – terminating in a balustrade overlooking the landscape below. Outside table and chairs and sun loungers are provided. I think all the rooms have access to an outside ‘lounging ’area.
On the first night a 2l bottle of water, various hot drink options, some cakes and a full fruit bowl are provided.
Breakfast is served outside on the terrace overlooking the swimming pool area and is a veritable feast. It starts off with a freshly-made smoothie accompanied by some nuts. This is followed by a huge platter with omelette, sliced tomatoes, sliced cold meats and cheeses and a huge selection of sliced fresh fruit. All accompanied by coffee and bread and jam. To finish there are some ‘cakes’ and or petit-fours type things. We never had room for these and together with an item of fruit from the bowl in our room they made up our lunch.
Carmen, the owner of Finca Arminda is extraordinarily pleasant and couldn’t be more helpful. English isn’t her best language which makes her efforts to help all the more impressive.
The only caveats about Finca Arminda relate to meals. In February, breakfast is normally served at 0900 (when the sun is – hopefully – full on the terrace). Carmen is quite willing to make exceptions to this for special circumstances e.g. getting an early flight home or an early ‘slot’ at Cumbrecita, but 0900 is the norm. This means you can’t get started until about 0940 which can take a chunk out of your day if you have something ambitious planned. And, in the evening, there isn’t a restaurant that you can walk to – so you have to drive. If you want to eat before 1900 this involves driving to Los Canjeros. From 0700 you can go to the excellent fish restaurant Casa Goyo near the airport and from 0730 you can go to the nearest one of all, Casa Pancho, 3 km further down the road that Finca Arminda is situated on. But, overall, Finca Arminda is a delightful little guest house if these things aren’t important to you. Highly recommended.

Amazing property and hospitality second to none!
Beautiful b&b just on the outskirts of Santa Cruz. You get looked after as if you were part of the family and staff go out of their way to ensure you have everything you need. Surrounded by a lush garden and banana plantation which you get to enjoy every morning while having the most incredible breakfasts on the terrace - even in January. Fresh fruit in your room every day and the rooms, and entire house, are immaculately clean! Staff are more than willing to share their recommendations on places to eat or visit although knowing some Spanish will help and having a car is a bonus as the finca is quite isolated. Having said that, having a car in general on the island is useful as there are some amazingly scenic drives and although the roads are steep and windy, driving is relatively easy and parking never a problem (in the winter). The finca isn’t without its minor quirks but that is to be expected of a 300 year old property. Overall we loved the week we spent at Finca Arminda and definitely recommend it to anybody looking for a nice, relaxing, friendly atmosphere.
