Disappointing
Disappointing. We booked because family & friends enjoyed Pepe's guest house a few years ago. Something has changed for the worse.
BOTCHED RESERVATION. When we arrived on Sunday afternoon July 5, the woman bluntly told me we didn't have a reservation; no rooms were available. I had booked 6 months earlier, had a confirming email from Pepe in December, and reconfirmed by WhatsApp the day before. I politely explained. She had to call her boss twice to figure out that someone wrote down the wrong date. She told me this happens all the time. She then gave us a room with twin beds; not the double that I'd booked. Going back to reception to explain, she grudgingly gave us the suite on the top floor.
ROOM. Room #7 (top floor) was adequate. Great view. But the portable AC unit in the hall couldn't keep up with the hot weather (38C that day). No hot (warm) water in the bathroom sink or shower. Not a big problem because of the hot weather but shaving in cold water isn't great.
MEALS. We expected meals prepared in the restaurant's kitchen but we never saw any staff other than the grumpy receptionist who also served meals. The cool center in my otherwise warm starter suggests reheated servings, prepared offsite. Breakfast was a melon slice, a baguette slice, a croissant, a toast. Packaged butter, spreads, orange drink. No yogurt, cheese, meat.
ATTITUDE. I wish we'd met Pepe and not his colleague who was unpleasant, unfriendly, unhelpful. For one night at 197 euro (including dinner & breakfast), we expected better.
It's a lovely, rural location, astride the camino. Attractive guest house & separate restaurant. We really wanted to enjoy Parada de Francos. Two stars. Disappointing.
In fairness, I directly emailed a more detailed review to the guest house, posting only this summary. No reply.

Poor Value - venue, location, facilities & service
Very disappointing and extremely overpriced

We stayed at Parada de Francos in Teo while walking the Portuguese Camino, and unfortunately it was one of the most disappointing experiences of our trip.
There is no question that the property is clean, well maintained and attractive. However, the prices are incredibly high compared with other establishments we experienced in the area, and the level of customer service simply did not justify the cost.
What was particularly disappointing was the attitude towards guests. We found the staff to be rather aloof and superior, with little apparent interest in listening to or responding positively to constructive feedback. On the Camino, where hospitality and a warm welcome are such an important part of the experience, this was especially disappointing.
Given the many excellent and much better. value places available along the Camino, I would not recommend Parada de Francos and, based on our experience, would advise other pilgrims to look elsewhere.

absolutely not recommended
We were traveling on the Camino de Santiago, and this accommodation was booked for us as a stopover by Orbis Ways and Santiago Ways, respectively. Unfortunately, our stay was a big disappointment.
We were greeted rudely and rather dismissively right at reception. We arrived together with several other pilgrims. The establishment was not yet open at that time, and checking in was not possible at first. After an exhausting hike, we would have at least appreciated a glass of water or another refreshing drink. Unfortunately, neither a welcome drink nor the purchase of drinks was possible.
When we were finally able to check in, we were first asked to provide our credit card. This was the first and only accommodation on the entire Camino where this was required.
Additionally, we were informed that in the evening we could only book the menu for €40 per person. Ordering à la carte was not possible. Since there was no other option in the village to eat in the evening, we agreed to it. Strangely enough, a Spanish group was allowed to order and eat à la carte that same evening and at the same time!!??
Before dinner, we ordered two glasses of Rioja red wine. From the very first sip, we had the impression that, in terms of taste, it was not a Rioja, but a very simple table wine. Therefore, we asked to be shown the bottle. This request was only met after repeated inquiries. Initially, the bottle was presented to us in such a way that the label could not be seen. Only after the bottle was turned were we able to determine that it was indeed not a Rioja. For us, such a procedure is extremely questionable and, from our point of view, borders on deception.
The subsequent dinner was also disappointing. The food was practically slammed onto the table – there was no question of attentive or appropriate service. In our opinion, the taste and quality of the food were in no way proportional to the charged €40 per person.
The room was also unconvincing. It was so small that we barely had the opportunity to open our backpacks or suitcases. In addition, towel racks and other furnishings were loose. For example, the hand towel kept falling onto the floor.
The situation in the hallway directly in front of our room was particularly disturbing: A portable air conditioner was set up there, its extension cord running across the hallway and thus posing a significant tripping hazard. The air conditioner was also very loud all night long, so there was hardly any thought of restful sleep.
What I haven't mentioned yet: A woman of Indian descent and her ten-year-old son, with whom we hiked a portion of the way, left this accommodation during our stay and apparently had to continue hiking that same day and find other accommodation after they were addressed about their origin and skin color. We do not know the background, but this situation also left a very bad impression on us.
We did not encounter such accommodation anywhere else on the entire Camino de Santiago. On the contrary: In all other accommodations, we were welcomed and cared for as pilgrims in a warm, friendly, and courteous manner.
Overall, we unfortunately cannot recommend this accommodation at all. Especially on a Camino de Santiago, where hospitality and respectful treatment of pilgrims are of particularly high importance to us, this stay was an extremely negative experience.

Do not go here
While the place it self has some rustic charm, the woman who checks you in and waits on you at the restaurant is unbelievably rude and goes out of her way not to be helpful. The menu says “homemade”burger which was 100% definitely a frozen burger patty as well as a frozen bun. They ask 40 Euro for dinner and there are no other options. With so many places to stay, good food and great people, there is no reason to stay here.

Terrible.
No hospitality feeling, very noisy, dated, damp rooms, too much knickknacks, too few staff, in short: we will not be back.
