A hidden pearl in Elblag

Door Bieland is a fantastic small hotel in Elblag, it is located in a green area just on out side Elblag, but with only 10 min walk to the tram it is easy and simple to get into town. The hotel is kept in an old classical still, and it really work, it is stepping back in time. Super friendly staff and simple great service.

Hell on Earth

The administrator told us that the front door would be open 24 hours, but when we returned to the place after midnight, it was locked. When we tried to reach him on the phone, he gave us an angry response. There were also super uncomfortable spring mattresses that made a sleep annoyingly jumpy. We requested 2 quiet room upon arrival, however, only one of them was bearable. In the other one you could hear every single word from the neighbouring room. The guy did not tell us that we would be charged for breakfast additional 6 EUR/person/night. All he did was informed us that breakfast would be served at 9 am. The worst surprise came at the end of our stay when we paid for the stay. According to Booking.com, the payment via POS terminal was supposed to be done in Polish zloty (local currency), but instead the administrator charged us in EUR resulting in more than a 22 EUR overcharge due to the bank conversion fee. When I attempted to confront him he said that his POS terminal did not have an option to pay in Polish zloty. I highly recommend all travellers to stay away from this place!!!

Might have been a "pearl" but not anymore.

This was a little motel straight from hell. The couple who run the place (obviously not owners!) do not want to bother with clients. They have clue about hospitality. After a long drive, we arrived two hours before check in and instead of being offered something to drink and allowed to wait on veranda for the room we were not even allowed to park on the property. We were the only guests there, since obviously there are other excellent choices in Elblag for lesser price. Completely nothing provided in the room, no fridge, no teapot/coffee, not even water to drink provided. Musty smell of old museum, squeeky floors and "slip and slide" rug at the bottom of each stairs. One of us fell while caring a luggage down the the stairs. Plenty of cats wondering around so watch out if you allergic . We received accommodations at the top floor/attic which was unbearably hot, so we decided to leave a day early and told the keepers the first morning of our stay. The owner insisted that we pay for the full stay, so we did and the cost was about $200 USD for each anight, which is outrageous for what we were offered. If this was not sufficient the owner made a nasty remark about one of us going for a cigarette (outside the property). Since smoking on property is prohibited. Hard to believe but we were being watched! If you are for a thrill of a Bates Motel, you be at home here.

Excellent service by staff in a beautiful property

We were greeted warmly and treated as special guests by our hosts. Our room was tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable, with a balcony and large bathroom. We visited in December, so the weather was cold and wet. Our room was warm, but the hallways and stairs were cooler ( not really a problem). We were delighted to be served delicious traditional three course Polish meals both nights we were guests. Breakfast was also delicious. Meals were served in style at a beautifully laid table. The overall cost was surprisingly reasonable.

First Irish to stay in Dwor Bieland

My husband & I stayed for a week in July while we toured the area by car. The host welcomed us warmly and has good English. Our room was very comfortable and cleaned daily & we had a balcony overlooking the back garden. Parking is secure. Breakfast was excellent every morning and our host provided gluten free bread as requested. We also had dinner on two nights which was very tasty with "family recipe" Polish soup, a chicken dish one night & fish on the other, with fresh fruit & ice cream for desert and a glass of good white wine. We felt it was very good value and would highly recommend more Irish as well as other tourists to stay there.
