Simple but perfect

The room and bathroom were brand new. Warm duvet for sleeping. Large window with direct view of the rocks of Colca Cañón and with narrow balcony for relaxation after the hike. We ate well, fresh avocados from the garden and delicious pancakes for breakfast.

Overall a good stay. The hosts were friendly and the food was decent. Unfortunately, there seemed to be an issue with the hot water tank, so we didn’t have hot water during our stay. Aside from that, it was a good value for the price.

Overrated

Credit where credit is due: the room was well appointed, clean and the WiFi was excellent. The lodge and restaurant area are set on the hillside and have a beautiful view of the Andean night sky.
Unfortunately, the overall experience left some to be desired. I arrived in the afternoon, the place is poorly marked and I had to ask around to get directions. Upon arrival, a child lay on the floor screaming and a slightly older child checked me into my room. The owner was nowhere to be found and there was a confusion about the price and room I had reserved. I found there to be no hot water in the rooms and ended up slipping and falling in the shower. Luckily i missed my head but bruised my bicep on the stone edge. Ouch. Dinner was satisfactory but underwhelming and expensive. The same child cried and screamed most of dinner. Many lodges on the Colca valley have social areas but unfortunately Colibri did not. I’ve heard Gloria’s is cheaper and provides a 3 course dinner. Will check that out if I return to SJC.
