Nice 5 days out

Stayed at this hotel for the second time. The first time just after the opening and now I think came back about 6 years later. When already experienced as very good now it has become even better first there was a coffee machine now can get coffee at the reception (say a real barista bar).
Breakfast is in buffet form really everything is perfect from smooties to a regular boiled egg many regional products of the island. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Furthermore, the rooms are nice and spacious we had a superior room with double shower even if you are showering with two you still have a lovely hard jet water, the beds are also very good. Good and quiet air conditioning installation.
Television also present few channels but we do not think that is important. There is also a small balcony with 2 chairs and table.
In short, we think this is a perfect hotel to stay a few days on this beautiful island. We will definitely be back again.

Disappointing

Upon check-in, we were told our suite was not at the hotel. Had to ask himself where it was. Answer was; just to the right and then to the left...okay... very unclear so.. you are looking with your child in the rain..luckily there was a friendly neighbor who showed us the way. Please note that not everything is at the hotel. We have paid more than 400 euros for 2 nights incl breakfast. Room was fine. Location is good. But breakfast is definitely not worth the money. You must be lucky if there is a table for you and everything is always up, they take on most many guests for what they can handle. And the breakfast is certainly not very extensive. So I recommend going to a breakfast restaurant to have some food if you want to have a relaxed breakfast and value for money. Reception staff should be friendlier and clearer and breakfast staff do their very best. We'll skip here next time.

Ameland, off to Van Heeckeren!

Every year we end the year with North Sea air at the end of October on Ameland. It's already a good tradition to stop by the Van Heeckeren Hotel. Simply a great, family team, super nice rooms, best central location and a truly good breakfast, so we will gladly come back anytime. Many thanks to Team Van Heeckeren!

Level 2 star eating barn

The "black-friday" offer was, according to the (certainly not qualified) girl at the reception, a great success. Yes, there were about 20 people waiting in line for check-in. Our room was ready, coffee machine broken, this of course reported and this would be fixed but that has yet to happen. Hotel was completely full. Result if you went to breakfast at 10:00, no plates, no cutlery, no bread and wait 20 minutes before you had a coffee at the reception (stupid idea). You could say 2 star eating shed in the '90s.
Like the rest of the guests, we were offered 2 x dinner/main course in other establishments of this company. No complaints about the food but staff do not have them and what is there speaks English for the most part.
However, I found the worst the hautaine behaviour of reception staff.
There are 3 girls behind the reception. 1 English speaking and 2 Amelandic. The 2 Amelandic wise men pityfully speak English when a customer comes. At the check out there is 1 Amelandese who points us to (the same) English speaking lady. She herself takes out her cell phone ......"hello with me. Are you all right?" Boyfriend/mother I don't know but I think you're working.
The Mexican restaurant. Except for the kitchen with 3 people in service with about 50-60 guests. You can feel it coming. Manager Dutch and also waiter Dutch. These 2 really do not perform almost anything. 1 English-speaking lady (not the same one) really runs her legs out from under the body all evening.
This was our 4th and final visit. Not to the island but to this hotel. Hotel Nobel seems to be nice too......
And no, I don't need a response from the hotel that they are sorry it was so busy and that they have such bad Dutch!!!! staff.
And yes, I understand that a company wants and needs to make money. But when you deliver real quality, people come back.

Van Heeckeren - no social deals

It remains special with the Van Heeckeren family. You're booking a black Friday deal. On the terrace we don't have Vinyll Friday, DJ's gone.. At the Harbour, we don't have Gambas, we're out. At Rixt, they don't have... Too bad, you're paying the grand prize for a consolation prize
