I stayed at Hotel Papendal several times for business, and unfortunately my experiences were consistently disappointing.
In my personal opinion, the reception staff were often unfriendly, unhelpful, and at times came across as arrogant. Instead of making guests feel welcome, I felt that even simple requests were handled in an unprofessional manner.
The rooms also did not meet my expectations. The bathrooms felt very outdated, with old fixtures and a basic design that seemed far below the standard I would expect from a hotel of this category. The mattresses were uncomfortable and badly worn, and I often woke up with back pain.
Another major issue was the lack of ventilation. The rooms became very hot during the summer, and there was no air conditioning. During colder periods, I also found the temperature difficult to keep comfortable.
After staying here on several occasions, I was left with the impression that customer service was not a priority. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend this hotel and I will choose other accommodation whenever possible.

Not worth the money for almost 200 euros
I don't know why people are so positive about this.
Every year it gets more expensive but the facilities including the rooms certainly not.
Lots of cracks in the room and muddiness.
As for the restaurant, the staff is friendly and the food is top notch.
Genuine tables need replacement as the board is loose everywhere

Dank je wel dat je de tijd hebt genomen om je ervaring te delen. Jammer om te horen dat je verblijf niet heeft gevoeld zoals het hoort; dat is niet de beleving waar we voor gaan.
Fijn om te lezen dat je het team in het restaurant vriendelijk vond en hebt genoten van het eten. Dat waarderen we enorm.
Als er iets niet in orde is, laat het alsjeblieft direct weten tijdens je verblijf, dan kunnen we het ter plekke voor je oppakken. Voor een volgende keer kan het prettig zijn om onze superior kamers te bekijken; die bieden extra comfort, zoals een inloopdouche.
We hopen je weer te mogen verwelkomen voor een fijner verblijf.

Disappointed
The room was rather disappointing. We had booked a standard room, but it looked more like a room in a youth hostel: no table, no place to sit for two people, no bedside table and no tea and coffee making facilities. Bathroom basically neat except for the rusted ceiling, and there were silverfish. Furthermore, the room breathes no Mood at all, it all feels very basic. The beds are good though.
We had booked a package with three-course dinner and checked by phone when booking whether it was a choice menu, to which they answered in the affirmative, but this turned out not to be the case. The food was of great quality, but there were a lot of athletes staying at the hotel on the weekend we were there, and we kept getting pushed away in a kind of second-rate space ‘because the restaurant is for the athletes’. Of course, we have no interest at all in this kind of comment as we are also just paying guests.
In the restaurant, the staff is generally very friendly, the reception we experienced as less pleasant: sigh about that we had booked through benefit outings, welcome drink from our arrangement we did not get, and there was confusion about a late checkout which was also not very friendly.
It was mentioned between nose and lips that the wellness facilities were out of order (these were a reason for us to book this hotel), and the fitness is nothing. Just some cardio machines and some really light dumbells. Cleaners in the gym can't even greet properly, and it's sweltering hot. Not very pleasant when you're doing cardio.
In short: we do not think this hotel is recommended.

great breakfast, staff very professional, helpful and friendly, need more hangers in room, not enough storage space.
