Great hostel!

**One of the worst experiences I have ever had as a guest. I absolutely do not recommend this hostel.**
My experience at Hans Brinker Hostel was extremely disappointing, not only because of the facilities, but mainly because of the lack of empathy, communication, and professionalism from the staff.
During my stay, a towel that I had left inside my own room disappeared. Nobody was able to explain what happened: whether it was mistakenly taken by housekeeping, sent to the laundry, or taken by someone else. The hostel’s response was completely insufficient: I was told that, if it was found, they could send it to my next destination. This is an impractical solution for someone traveling through Europe and it means having to deal with extra costs and inconvenience for an issue that occurred inside the hostel.
As if this was not enough, after my towel disappeared, the only solution I was given was a small hand towel to use for showering. This is completely unacceptable for a hostel that charges guests while failing to provide a basic service.
In addition, I had a very uncomfortable situation with a male member of the housekeeping staff, who attempted to enter a women’s shared room in an intrusive manner and without respecting the privacy of the guests. This created a very uncomfortable and inappropriate situation.
I was also abruptly told: “you have 10 minutes to leave the room”, even though this information had never been communicated to me as a guest beforehand. If I had known about the situation in advance, I would have been completely willing to leave the room properly and cooperate. The problem was the lack of communication and the unnecessary aggressive way it was handled.
The hostel also has no air conditioning, something that should be clearly communicated considering the extreme heat waves that can occur during European summer. Sleeping was very difficult: the beds are extremely uncomfortable and proper rest was almost impossible.
The staff was also not welcoming or friendly towards guests. The only positive aspect is the location, but for the price, there are many better alternatives where guests can receive respectful treatment and a service that matches what they pay for.
A negative experience from every perspective. I would never return and I would not recommend this place.

Good Experience
We upgraded and booked a private room with bathroom. For the upgrade price was comparable to a hotel.
Busy spot with people coming and going.
Very clean throughout, lobby, halls, rooms, dining area. This was a big concern before we went but no issues at all. Also safe. Never felt this was a concern. Lots of younger people travelling but most kept to themselves.
Rooms compared to North American hotels, very very small. Two single beds almost touching. Trouble opening two suitcases at the same time. Room was very clean. Beds, single, clean and comfortable. Bathroom / shower was clean and compact. Very functional.
The location was very nice as well. Walkable from the main train station. Central to museums we were visiting. Lots of options tor restaurants in the area.
I would stay here again and would recommend it to younger people.
