Not your ordinary trekking lodge: comfortable and enlightening

This lodge is attached to an Italian-Nepali research institute, some 20 minutes north from Lobuche, built like the glass piramid at the Louvre. The attached lodge is intended for research staff, but regularly rented out to trekkers, we took the all-inclusive rate which really paid off.
Why did we so much like staying here? It is really clean and pleasant compared to the survivable but fairly grim regular lodges, and we were actually toasty at night with electric blankets, and slept like roses at 5050 m above sea level! Good wifi. Free charging. The food is really tasty, ample, and prepared with care. The caretaker is extremely knowledgeable as well as helpful, we talked at length with him on Nepal, the Khumbu, tourism. The research institute (we got a tour) pulls you out of your tourist-himalaya myopic focus, and informs you about so much more that’s going on in the Khumbu area: pollution, climate change, earthquakes and AMS.
A memorable experience. Highly worth a stay.

Nice place to sleep, considering where you are

Ok, so this is certainly no luxury hotel, but considering you are at 5200 m altitude, it is ok. The rooms were not heated, but we were not cold. They had hot showers and even hair driers. It was very crowded though.

Last Luxury Stop on the Way to Everest Base Camp

After a long trek and many days without a shower 8000 Inn is such a nice last stop before the final push. A great hot shower makes you feel human again and the wifi is good enough for a video call panicked relatives who haven't heard from you in a few days. Worth the extra money and I would recommend it to hikers doing the EBC trail.
