Great Value!

We stayed here twice last month and were blown away by the value of this place! It feels very new, with beautiful decorations. The rooms are spacious with powerful AC and comfortable beds. Our favorite part was the restaurant, which had great prices and delicious food. Happy hour was every day, which also gives you free drinks! This is probably one of the best hotels in Mandalay, and an incredible value for what you get!

Mandalay's only option.

The service of Mr Aung Ko, Mr Moe Myint and Ms Shwe Zin is exceptional!
The stay at King Bagan Hotel Mandalay was wonderful thanks to the excellent service of Mr Aung Ko, Mr Moe Myint and Ms Shwe Zin. From check-in to answering all my travel queries, they were always warm and attentive and offered to share a lot of practical local information for me. This professionalism and sincere care made me feel at home. I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family and have already started looking forward to coming back here again on my next trip to Mandalay! Give them a five-star rating for such amazing service!

Not Horrible, but not great either. Kind of meh for Myanmar.

We probably will not stay at this hotel again. We live in Myanmar and travel here often, so we have had both good and bad experiences with different hotels. This one is in the middle.
Staff: Some staff did a great job. The food servers (Aung Ko and Moe Myit) were very approachable, and their service was great. The day manager (Ko Nge [?) was also friendly and constantly checking on us too, so that showed a willingness by staff to help. However, when we first arrived, the front desk staff insisted that we pay an additional fee for one of our children's breakfasts each day, per the hotel's policy. We explained that when we paid online through Agoda, it said that all our family could eat for free, according to the occupants of the room and the ages of our kids. They pushed back a little, then the day manager stepped in and said it wasn't a problem. We probably would have asked for a refund if they didn't let us do that.
Later, the front desk staff told us there was a problem with filing our paperwork with immigration, although all of Visas, FRC and Form C were up to date until March/April. This is just typical for immigration offices here, just wanting tea money from the hotel filing the paperwork, but they were asking us to fix the problem by providing a receipt from our filings almost a year ago, which we obviously weren't carrying. Again, it's not needed; our visas were clearly up to date, but the front desk was trying to get us to fix the problem.
Food: The breakfast food was the same every single day, and the product was just ok (if that). They will use the cheapest vegetables and fruit they can buy at local markets in Myanmar. The food wasn't horrible, but again, there was no real variety, and it was just ok. Fried rice, a curry, and fried noodles, with a few other items like old bread and noodles, but that's about it. They will prepare an egg for you however you like, which is ok for a couple of days. When the servers asked about the food quality after about 5 days' stay, we said honestly, it wasn't great. They asked for suggestions, and we gave some, but later they told us they could not find those food suggestions. I expect it just isn't in their budget. We were also walking by a room one time and overheard another guest, complaining in Burmese about room service, saying the food was old and smelled bad.
Facilities: As told by others, the rooms are somewhat dated and older, although large. Mattresses were very hard in both rooms, so if that's a problem for you, then you won't sleep well. That's not a massive issue for us, but it could be for others. The rooms could definitely use more lights, too, but that's a little thing. The air-conditioning broke for one night on a couple of floors, including ours, so our kids did not sleep well. We just slept in shorts, above the sheets. It was the cooler season, so it wasn't bad. If it happened in the hot season, it'd be a real problem. There is also at least one rat living in the ceiling of the 5th floor (which means it probably has access to the kitchen/restaurant on the 6th floor). We would hear it run above and through the hallway ceiling (this is Myanmar), but it did not look great. I've stayed in places with worse pest problems, but other hotels are more proactive about getting rid of them. However, the rooms were cleaned daily, and the cleaning was decent.
Location: Pretty good and close to the moat, so my son and I could go for runs there in the morning. It's at a bustling intersection, and one night, there was a horrible accident involving a motorcycle and two cars. So you have to be careful, but that's everywhere here. We were told not to walk around the moat at night for safety reasons, which I appreciated them letting us know.
Price: If you want a decent hotel for a night or two in Mandalay, this might be an ok option. For our family and for an extended stay, we can find places that suit us better in Mandalay at a better price. The reviews of this place made us think it was worth checking out, but we probably did not get our money's worth. Probably won't come back.

Very happy with the stay

This hotel has very cool design. It’s also clean. The restaurant has a rooftop with great view. I got good contact with the reception people and the restaurant people. I would mention Mr. Aung at the restaurant. He recommended food for me a few times and was very smiling. I recommend this hotel.

Cool hotel and restaurant near the Royal Palace

Wonderful boutique hotel in the heart of the city, 300m from the promenade overlooking the Royal Palace. Laksheri rooms, carnage beds, perfectly fresh linen, stunning breakfast on the roof overlooking the city. There are also European-style dinners, with full service, sparkling glasses, napkins and perfect service. A menu with cocktails and dishes from the European and Asian menus for all tastes. Special thanks to the restaurant director, Mr. Aung Ko Ko, who made our dinners memorable. Will I come back again, absolutely yes!
