All round perfect hotel for enjoying Oaxaca!

Casa Gubidxa was a life saver for us in Oaxaca! After having to change hotels at short notice due to one of us being quite sick with heatstroke and needing air con, the staff at Casa Gubidxa let us check in early with no issues, and were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay - we also extended our stay at short notice with no issues. The room was immaculate and beds very comfortable, and while we were in Oaxaca the temperatures were reaching 37/38C so air conned rooms were a must! It's a small hotel and feels like a family run place, it was always very well staffed. Water available to guests and a vending machine for snacks. There's a lovely roof terrace with lots of separate areas for guests to relax a bit more privately. We were in room 3 on the ground floor and at the back of the building, so it was very quiet at night. 7am fireworks seem to be a thing all over Mexico but didn't bother us! Location was perfect, 15mins walk to the centre of town and 10mins walk to bus station, and a stones throw from the Jalatlaco neighbourhood with loads of trendy cafes, restaurants, galleries and shops and beautiful streets. We would stay here again in a heartbeat and just want to say a big thank you to the team at Casa Gubidxa!

A jewel of a find, convenient, pleasant, inexpenisve!

At first glance this hotel seems a rather ridiculous place for travellers to stay (no one speaks anything but Spanish, there's not much design invested, everything seems beige in colour and character), but I must say it's a great find! Our room was spacious, clean, the bed good, air-con, hot water, ground floor, around a small courtyard within a secure entrance. In that courtyard we could use the tables and chairs, the fridge, cups and plates and flatware, there was both drinking water and hot water. The location is super-convenient - across the road from the Jatlatco neighborhood, and a few minutes walk from the edge of the centro historico. Within a 2-block radius there are grocery stores, bakeries, little restaurants, pharmacies. In 12-13 minutes, past lots of interesting sites and buildings, we were at the zocalo. For a 2-star hotel, that's a tremendous lot of plusses!

Comfortable, affordable, walkable

It looks basic but supplies pretty much everything you'll need at an affordable price. It's an easy walk to the zocolo. Very close to an inexpensive laundry place (two blocks) and a small corner grocery store. Some staff speak some English. They have food in a vending machine and a shared microwave and refrigerator. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was fairly large. It could get noisy. We could hear people talking.

Friendly Family Hotel Close to the Centre

I stayed here due to the amazing value price whilst screening my film at Oaxaca Film Festival. I arrived a few hours before check in but they were more than happy to look let me store my bags and freshen up when I arrived.
The room was well sized with a king-size bed and a wet-room style bathroom and basic toiletries provided. The room can have outside noise leak in, but anywhere in the city will due to the layout of it and the comfiness of the bed makes you forget this and fall asleep. I assume this would not be an issue for the rooms not overlooking the road.
There was tea and coffee available as well as a fridge for food in the lovely communal courtyard.
The staff were really friendly and spoke some English so between my level of Spanish and their English, I had no issues. They were happy to call me a taxi on my departure too.
Overall, amazing value, coming in at less than $20 a night for something that would have another 0 on the end in similar cities in the US.

great value for money

We stayed at Casa Gubidxa for 2 nights in a spacious room with private bathroom for less than 40$. We could check in earlier, and we could pay with credit card. They have a little yard with a common seating area and a little „kitchen“ (fridge, microwave and hot/cold water dispenser). Friendly staff and all the amenities that you need (no airco, however).
