Acapulco was my first favorite beach vacation in Mexico. Fell in love with it until I discovered Cancun and the Riviera Maya side.
Don't skip your siesta in Acapulco, because you'll need the sleep: you'll be busy dancing from midnight until the sun comes up. Countless nightclubs keep the evenings hopping, while Acapulco Bay and its beaches give the beautiful people a place to perfect their tans by day. Gourmet restaurants and exceptional water sports make your stay unforgettable. Acapulco is still famous for its nightlife and attracts many tourists, although most are now from Mexico itself. The resort area is divided into two: The north end of the bay is the "traditional" area, where the famous in the mid-20th century vacationed; and the south end is dominated by newer luxury high-rise hotels
I visited Acapulco for work reasons during spring break (I know, I know) and absolutely hated it. It was full of drunk students and I felt that somewhere, deep down, there might be a town I'd like to see but at the time I was there... not so much. If you like to party and drink it's great, but for those of us who like places a little less crowded and a bit less booze-fueled, this is probably not the place to visit.
I really enjoyed Acapulco, however it was during a time when the crime and drug situation was not as prevalent.
