Located in Antsiranana, Emeraude lodge is on a private beach. The area's natural beauty can be seen at Emerald Sea and Emerald Beach. Take an opportunity to explore the area for outdoor excitement like cave exploring. A little corner of Paradise
This place has only recently opened and is absolutely fantastic if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of DiegoSuarez. Jean-Claude and his wife Vivian are fabulous hosts and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. There are only 2 lodges. Little eco cabins ideal for 2 couples. The cabins are basic but furnished with whatever you might need for a secluded getaway. It is after all an eco lodge. The main building is where JC and Vivian live and where meals are served. Vivian is an excellent cook and there was plenty of seafood and traditional dishes all fresh and nicely presented. Breakfast is lovely and Vivian made us homemade banana cake.
JC was happy to take us fishing or swimming at nearby beaches, although that is extra but worth it. We spent a lovely morning swimming at a beach called La Piscine - the swimming pool , named for the emerald warm waters , not deep - like a swimming pool. the whole of the Mer Emeraude is full of white sandy beaches and this is no exception. We would definitely recommend a visit. It is better than the visits that the tour operators in Diego will sell to tourists. JC is amenable in arranging transfer from Diego to the Island, about 1 hour 30 minutes.If like us you love nature and natural beauty this is a must.

After booking owner said that they are closed since a month and I needed to change my whole plan as it was the only affordable hotel in the area.

A fabulous place !
My wife and I visited this small lodge together with 4 friends.We were picked up by boat by the owner and his crew in Ramena.After 1h 30 we arrived at the lodge.The views from this very quiet place are absolutely great.There are few places where one can take pictures of a zebu standing in front of you with a background of 180 degrees superb emerald water and sandy beaches .Jean-Claude and his wife Vivian are excellent hosts.We had a very good breakfast and a delicious,fresh seafood lunch.
As we planned only a one day visit,we did not have enough time to explore the woods and the baobab area,but we enjoyed the swimming in the Emerald Sea.We were offered the use of a bungalow to take a shower.The 2 bungalows are simple and clean.
Only one regret: Not having spent a couple of nights.

Overpriced European accomodation with bragging owner, on the other side food and stay are decent
Staying at this lodge has two opposite stories:
On one side the lodge is one of the best looking places we’ve visited on Madagascar. It is far from civilization and located near the bay of the bright Emerald sea. Transport to the lodge is special: the owner+crew will pick you up by motor-equipped sail boat and the time depends on the tides, about 1.5-2.5h. The small bungalow (1 out of 2) we’ve slept in was 25 m to the sea and basic but sufficient. The view from it is great, snorkelling is wonderful and the woods include lemurs and more far away Baobabs of 5-10 m. Also the food is fresh and decent and the owner Jean-Claude will feed you with a three-course lunch and dinner. You will feel comfortable and the owner entertains you as he likes to talk about his life and experiences (without asking yours). He (/it) is wondering why nobody writes reviews about their stay. After your nights you think: ‘Unfortunately it’s almost time to leave.’
Then the other side starts: we had a wonderful stay for two nights and had to pay just before our leave at 4:30 am due to the tides. The bungalow had cost only €27, the total was a *hell of a bill: €270 for two days*, including €70 for transportation by boat, €30 for transport by 4x4 afterwards to Le Relais de la Montagne d'Ambre and >€100 for food.
This was more than we had spent together for over 1 week in Madagascar! It was way more than expected, so we asked for compensation, but then he wouldn’t bring us back. We payed and he ignored us for the residual 4h. This made us realize why so few people wrote reviews: he attracts tourists with his low price for the bungalow, will feed you sufficiently as you have no other choice but then he surprises everyone negatively with the bill they have to pay in the end. Unbelievable! Price-quality ratio is nowhere to find.

First of all I must say that these 2 young fellows had no idea of where they were going though our web site (www.emeraudelodge.com) explains all details and options about the lodge. Our lodge is situated at 2 hours sailing from Diégo-Suarez (Antsiranana), thus 4 hours round trip from any super-market, local market, fuel station and supplies. We invested to have all comodities : light, toilets, shower with running water in the bungalows, this has a price : every nail, and all materials came from Diégo. If we where « over priced » I do think that other customers would have made this remark, you are the only ones !! We have customers comming back for 2nd & 3rd time... so. For the price ratio I would like to point out that we are the cheapest stay on the esmerald sea evenn though we are the farest : the previous competitor price is 50€ PER person 1 way to the airport, 85€ full board first person and 60€ for the second and this to sleep under tents with common showers and toilets !! Our price : 75€ per couple, 45€ single, full board and private shower and toilets. As to 30€ to bring you to the « Montagne d'Ambre » it is « under priced » for a 4x4, even a malagasy driver with a renault 4L takes minimum 100.000 Ariary for this trip if not per person !! Did you notice state of the road, 1h30 min trip one way ? As to be « a bragging owner » you should think about your « excuse » to pay in Diégo (not having enough cash on you), you forgot that we stoped at an ATM ( bank)on your arrival, I took my money before having trouble in Diégo whith you guys. s And do'ont you pay before leaving a hotel ? So please do'nt cry and think next time.

Consigliatissimo!
Posto davvero incantevole in una baia privata immersi nella natura. Si dorme cullati dalle onde del mare. C’è una passerella sul mare che parte dal Lodge e consente una bella camminata immersi tra mangrovie e mare.
Cibo ottimo: colazione abbondante e molto varia e tutti i piatti serviti ai pasti squisiti! Camere molto curate e servizio di pulizia ottimale! Consiglio la Suite per una vista davvero incredibile sulla baia.
Il proprietario Vincenzo é stato molto disponibile e ci ha fatto sentire a casa. Il Lodge offre anche la possibilità di effettuare escursioni a terra o in mare. Il barman Edés fa dei cocktail buonissimi. Se andate a Nosy Be, dovete alloggiare qui!
