Nagano’s gem hostel

1166 is like stepping into someone’s home. The place is decorated really nice, the staff are all very friendly and there is everything you need here to have a great time in Nagano.
Very reasonably priced and a great location for exploring the region.

Pleasant Stay in Nagano

This is one of the nicest hostels I have stayed in. The staff — Yurina, Sakura, Yuhie, and Etsuke — were very welcoming and shared many useful tips: which places to visit, what to eat, and where to go in Nagano itself.
The hostel provides bicycle rentals, warm and cold barley tea at any time, and guidebooks about the area.
A highlight for me was that I began speaking Japanese here. Although the staff speak English very well, they encouraged me to use Japanese and helped me to feel the local atmosphere.
Orie, the owner, responded quickly to all my messages, which made communication smooth and easy.
Overall, a comfortable stay with great hospitality!

The hostel of dreams!

In life I have stayed in hundreds of hostels, this definitely falls into the top 3. What about it? It all seemed wonderful to me.
The staff. Very kind Japanese girls who also speak English. We had some great chats and one evening they even invited me to spend the evening there in the hostel with them and their friends. Super available to help with anything... trips, outings, language, places to visit, where to eat etc. There are also two large notebooks with descriptions of the things that are around there to organize trips or activities.
The hostel has a spacious and clean common area, you can use it either if you want to be alone or if you want to socialize.
There are always teas and herbal teas available.
I slept in a room with only two beds, so quiet and peaceful. Comfortable and clean. Great bathrooms.
Kitchen with everything you need for cooking.
You can use the washing machine and dryer.
In short, this hostel has everything you need and more.
Also I was traveling alone in Japan for a month and here I really felt at home!

Friendly and helpful staff!

A very nice hostel in a quant historic building. It is well maintained and nice and clean. We stayed in the family room with tatami floor. It was quite comfortable. The staff is super friendly and helpful!

Perfect little hostel with great hospitality

We had just one night in Nagano but I am so glad we stayed at 1166 Backpackers, and I would have loved to stay longer! The hostel is in a great location, walkable from the station but close to the main street (Chuo-dori) and the incredible Zenko-ji temple (good for getting to the atmospheric early morning service!). There's also lots of great restaurants, bakeries, cafes around. The welcome at the hostel was really greats, like we were old friends rather than new guests, Minami showed us tips for the city, shared her knowledge and very chatty. We had a dormitory to ourselves which wasn't huge, but fine for our purposes, and it was warm (not always the case in Japanese accommodation in January!). It was a fab stay and I would definitely recommend to others.
