Pure bliss! Private onsen, top-tier service, and amazing food near Tokyo. A romantic, relaxing forest getaway

The Hakone Suishoen is a true Japanese immersive experience. After leaving the hustle & bustle of Tokyo, this Ryokan hotel acted as a much needed recovery sanctuary. Situated near the volcanic mountain of Hakone, you are surrounded by beautiful bamboo and pine trees. I love that the hotel produced a complementary luxury shuttle to pick us up from the train station. The staff truly treats you like family. The older gentleman staff reminded me of those lovable grumpy uncles who crack a smile and always lead with respect and formality. The younger staff is all smiles and friendliness. They enjoyed practicing their English with us and showing pride in their property. The staff is highly efficient so share your travel plans with them upon checkin so they can optimize your logistics. Calling cabs, sending your luggage ahead, speeding up your dinner, are just a few of the customizations we took advantage of.
The rooms are breathtaking and extremely well maintained. Ours came with its very own private Onsen, so we did not need the communal bath. The water flows in from the volcanic hot spring. We also had complimentary snacks and beverages in the room. The hotel offers an in-room full dining experience. They literally run back and forth from the restaurant to ensure the dishes arrive at the same pace it would in the restaurant. Our room was right next to a babbling stream, which we could hear mixed in with chirping birds.
We purchased the dinner and breakfast package, which will leave you full. It’s not commercial or western style Japanese food, so be prepared to try something outside of your comfort zone. The hotel also provided us with an all inclusive happy hour. This is clutch. Definitely stay here if you want fresh air, less people, and the perfect romantic setting.

One of my favorite inns.

This is my fourth stay after staying in June last year, following renovation. The inn was quite dilapidated but had been renovated and was in a very clean condition. The room name has also been changed, from the comfort twin (large: Yutaka) when I first stayed to (small hydrangea). A new free-flow service was launched, and we had sparring, white, red wine, draft beer, and other retro-inspired snacks (such as Miyako kelp and Siberia) in BARI Ito. The drinks were better than Fu Atami in terms of content and quality. Draft beer was served in a dispenser, and Koshu wine was particularly delicious. The wine glasses are also good in texture. The public bath didn't change much, but there were four kinds of ice cream after the bath. The food was delicious as usual. The Aigamo foie gras dog is particularly excellent. At the check-in and out, Mr Butler, who is usually in Atami (moon among trees), was very pleasant and courteous. Suishoen has had a lot of problems dealing with customer service, but this time it was improved against expectations. One unfortunate thing is that I can't smoke on my terrace anymore and go to the smoking room on the lobby floor. I think the distance between a fairly small space and a room is a bit daunting. The difficulty with this inn is the climbing of stairs and rainy days. Other than that, it is a very satisfying inn. I cancelled other inn because I liked it and booked in September. I'll go again, so thank you.

The highlight of our Japan trip

We are a family of four with two children (ages 8 and 10), and we stayed at Hakone Suishoen for two nights during our recent trip to Japan. Without question, it was one of the most memorable experiences of our entire vacation.
From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and impeccably maintained. The service was warm, attentive, and truly world-class. Every member of the staff made us feel welcome and cared for throughout our stay.
The food was outstanding and became one of the culinary highlights of our trip. The private onsen experience was exactly what we needed after a long transpacific flight. It was relaxing, rejuvenating, and unlike anything we had ever experienced before.
We find ourselves dreaming of returning to Japan, and staying here again. Hopefully, we'll be back soon.
If you're considering a ryokan stay in Hakone, we cannot recommend Hakone Suishoen highly enough. If this property appears during your search, rest assured you've found something truly special. Do not hesitate—just book it. You won't regret it.
Like us, you'll likely leave with memories that become one of the highlights of your entire trip. :)

The staff are so very polite and helpful. They always put on a smile=) The lobby area is small but the view is really awesome!
The room is with 2 stories, everything is neat and tidy, except a part of the wall was quite stained, we assumed it was from the coffee machine which was placed next to it. The signature part was the private onset bath (on the 2nd story), it was truly awesome, the tank was clean and it is very cosy!
We enjoyed the facilities in the room, we wish to have spent on more night, except the toilet is separated from the shower place, which is downstairs.
We were arranged to have breakfast on the 2nd floor in a compartment at the restaurant. It was really chill and full of tranquillity. We enjoyed the breakfast service so much! Highly recommend if you want to stay away from the common-large-brand-hotel, it's a star and quiet profile hotel

Delicious food and lovely Mr Butler.

The food is delicious. I like Fufu, who is in the same group as me, best for dinner.
I love this quiet, relaxing inn.
This time, Mr. Butler was especially pleasant and we had a good time at the restaurant and bar.
The inn. The young butlers are very sensitive, but they sense our feelings (they want to chat) and respond.
It was a very comfortable stay.
