Amazing solo stay
Incredible stay! From the moment I began communication via email with the team at Fufu Hakone everything was seamless. I knew that the solo price was slightly higher than what I would have paid per person if I was traveling in a pair, but it was 10000% worth the extra money.
Staying in Gora is definitely the way to go to really encompass all Hakone has to offer (easy access to the Ropeway and other sights like the Open Air Museum), and Gora station is the perfect center point to make sure you're able to access everything easily.
I was picked up by their shuttle at Gora station and upon arrival to the hotel provided complimentary tea and a seat with a beautiful view. They were able to store my bags (which were delivered in to my room so they were waiting there when I returned for check in) and the shuttle took me back to Gora station so I could explore.
The room was soooo luxurious and extremely spacious. The in-room onsen was divine and I really had to force myself to leave the next day to explore Hakone, because all I wanted to do was stay in the onsen. The complimentary lounge-ware and pajamas were so cozy. The only minus of the whole stay was that their gift shop was sold out of all sizes (except xxs) of the lounge set, you'll definitely want to buy it after you wear it so I would suggest seeing if you can coordinate that ahead of time :)
After 120k steps walking in Kyoto, two nights here was enough to reset my body for the second half of my trip in Tokyo, and it cleared up my blisters. I did use the public onsen twice during my stay, and both times I had the space to myself which was nice. I also took advantage of the spa services and enjoyed the hinoki powder bath, massage, and facial.
The food was really a showstopping experience for both dinner and breakfast. I did the prix fixe dinner the first night and the teppanyaki on my second, and I'd highly recommend both experiences. I think overall I preferred the teppanyaki dinner slightly more than the prix fixe, but both were some of the best food of my whole trip.
The hotel was also able to easily coordinate luggage forwarding to my next hotel in Tokyo which was a relief. If anything I'd recommend one more night to really get a rejuvenating experience, but two nights was definitely the right choice for this trip as I was trying to balance resting and moving on to see more areas of Japan.

Pretentious but comfortable beds
First impressions were very good. Rooms are clean with an in room onsen. Lounge wear provided which most people wore around the hotel and to the restaurant. Beds were very comfortable.
A very good idea of a "drop" box by your room door so any needs were catered to without disturbing you.
The negatives, it was pretentious, very pretentious. Staff, some lovely others falsely so.
We were surprised that the impression we felt they were trying to imply was at one with the season, environment, food, atmosphere, decor etc, yet they used plastic wrapped disposable oshibori.
The food whilst good was no way near as good as experienced in other simpler roykons.

I almost canceled our reservation because I read another review which was negative and now I’m so glad I didn’t cancel!
This was easily one of the top places I’ve ever stayed at . The staff and service was top notch. They did everything to make our stay comfortable. The place itself is gorgeous. The room had a ton of thoughtful touches all over the place . From the little things like easy access lights to comfortable night clothes, charging cables , the tea - everything !! And the private onsen - whoa! My skin felt rejuvenated after one evening in it ! And the view while you laze in it - I could get used to living like that 😉
And saving the best for last - the food! That kaiseki dinner is the kind I’ve seen on food network. Every single dish was delicious, so beautifully plated. Kudos to the chef and his team. One of the mains I had - the pork, had some crunchy topping, with berries and a red wine reduction sauce - get all of that in one bite and it’s a flavor explosion! That’s a meal I won’t forget for as long as I live !

Relaxation retreat in Japan
Wow-this hotel was an incredible escape after the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. We were all ready for some true R&R, and from the private in-room onsens to the absolute clouds of beds, to the kaiseki dinner and authentic Japanese breakfast, this place delivered! It was so peaceful and relaxing. Comfort was next-level. Easy access to the train station the next morning via their private cars! Pro-tip: Free iced coffee in the public onsen in the morning (completely empty, probably because everyone has their own private in-room onsens.) Loved our time here, even if it was only for 1 night.
The only few downsides that keep this from being a true 5-star: the kaiseki dinner took a while and had a few hiccups due to some English translation mistakes. Some of the courses were not our faves, but some were good. Additionally, the wine/sake pairing didn't feel truly curated (essentially you pick the wines yourself or have a flight of sake brought out to you). When I asked for recommendations for the wine based on the meal, they asked "Do you like wine?" ....so, would maybe recommend a more personalized service for that to feel truly luxe. Also, it was impossible to call the desk via our American phones for pick-up at the train station, and it's a 15 min-walk (mostly uphill) so we opted to get an Uber (~$6 USD, so not too bad.) No wine or alcohol/bar room service, which was a bummer. Would have been nice to have a bottle of wine to go with the private onsen.
Overall, a gorgeous place with stunning views and perfectly designed rooms. Would definitely recommend if looking for a more budget-friendly stay compared to some similar onsen-focused stays in the area.

This is probably the best hotel I have ever stayed at. We splurged and got a suite with a private onsen and it was 100% worth it. The staff were incredibly helpful. Everything was taken care of. The food was AMAZING. My only regret is not staying longer.
