beautiful view, delicious meal

The staff were friendly and excellent service from the pick up at the station, through a gorgeous (if very very small) onsen with beautiful views. the rooms were nice, and the meal (we had an oyster meal) was delicious, although too much! breakfast was also wonderful. Family friendly.

Good price and service

The staff here is very nice and friendly, one staff speaks good English. The onsen hotel is located at a good location, near the shore and other attractions. The room is nicely furnished, bathroom is spacious (with a bathtub and dressing/sink area), toilet is separate. There are 3 onsen baths: one inside the hotel, two across the road from the main hotel building - one is outdoors and one is indoors overlooking the sea (male and female switch at different times). Food is good - i booked the light meal course, but there was still plenty to eat.

Incredible experience at Donkairo Onsen

The staff here was wonderful and accommodating. We stayed in a spacious Japanese room. The Onsen was wonderful, especially the open air bath. The dinner was exquisite and memorable with 9 courses. They change with the
Season with locally sourced and seasonal foods. This was our second visit. The perfect finish to our 3 week visit to Japan.

Donkairo. Family friendly, insiders' view of Japan

Staff highly attentive and personable. Old world and family oriented, the hotel provides an insiders' view of Japanese culture and customs. Meals are an event and highly elaborated. Vital to have a palate open to new tastes. The Onsen baths are relaxing and cap off a day of tourism.
Minor hick up are obstructed views by electric wires. Recommend one or two nights.

A must stay

This place is a must do on your Japan trip.
A real traditional Japanese onsen. The staff gush with hospitality.
There was only one English speaking staff member (mai) but google translate can be your friend.
School up on onsen etiquette before the spa.
Advise them of your arrival time to have them arrange dinner. It is a prepared dinner, not an open restaurant.
