A dream place!!!
The only thing that is not comfortable is the bathroom (the shower) which is open. You have to take turns so as not to be in the cave while the other person is showering. But nothing impossible to resolve.
I recommend it 100%. We hope to be able to return someday.

Magnificent place!
The hotel is perfect... The room is super beautiful and the team is very attentive with a shuttle to come and pick you up. In short, an excellent place to tour Matera

I would like to stay here.
Even before my arrival by car, I was contacted by the hotel staff with various suggestions for the parking that best suited my needs.
Shuttle service to and from the hotel is very punctual.
A welcome of great exquisiteness and professionalism.
A special mention for Oronzo, who was friendly, kind, courteous, and helpful, welcoming us as if we were the only and most special guests of the establishment.
And so I saw this happen with the other guests who arrived after us.
The spacious, lofted room is bright, with elegant and functional furnishings, equipped with all comforts, including kettles, herbal teas, coffee, and a fridge full of every delicacy.
In the bathroom, there are high-quality cleaning products worthy of a luxury spa, with refillable dispensers that fully respect the environment.
Breakfast deserves a treatise. A joy for the eyes and the palate.
Fresh fruit, a vast selection of juices and freshly squeezed drinks.
Sweet and savory in the richest assortment: local fresh cheeses, cold cuts, omelets, and then traditional local and international desserts, fruit cakes, and various pastries, with attentive and available staff in the dining area.
Starting the day in the coolness of a cave is
renovated and bright, it is
the most engaging and immersive experience there can be.
Opening the window door of your room and finding yourself in the history and heart of a UNESCO heritage site is the utmost a visitor to Matera can aspire to.

Disappointing
We stayed at Basiliani Hotel in Matera this past September and unfortunately had an extremely disappointing experience.
Upon check-in, we were given a room where the bathroom and shower were completely open to the bedroom—there was no door or frosted glass, offering no privacy at all. Even worse, there was paint and white dust scattered all over the floor. Setting anything down meant our clothes and belongings were covered in residue. We also noticed that the air felt heavy with particles, and by morning, I woke up struggling to breathe, almost as if I had an asthma attack.
Because the front desk staff leaves at 10 PM, there was no one to contact that night. The next morning, we asked to be moved to another room. The staff told us it would be taken care of while we were out for the day. When we returned around 11 PM, the room had been changed, but sadly the situation worsened: there was no hot water, the curtains in the bathroom were filthy, paint was chipping off the bathtub, and the tub spout was falling out of the wall. Again, there was no staff available to assist.
We called at 7 AM and were told they were aware of the hot water issue and were “working on it.” Unfortunately, we had to check out that morning—after taking freezing cold showers.
We also found the service to be shockingly unprofessional. Upon check-in, we asked for a simple box of tissues and were met with laughter and told none were available. When checking out, we asked for assistance with our luggage and were told they don’t help with bags. The man at the front desk was dismissive and rude, even putting his hand in my face when I tried to speak.
To make matters worse, we were charged over $300 per night, despite later learning that the actual going rate for similar rooms is closer to $100. For what we paid, we expected basic cleanliness, privacy, functioning utilities, and respectful service—but received none of that.
The only pleasant parts of our stay were the kind woman who served breakfast each morning and the gentleman who drove us from the parking lot to the hotel—both were courteous and professional.
Sadly, this stay left us feeling disrespected, disappointed, and physically unwell. I sincerely hoped the hotel would offer some form of compensation, but nothing was even acknowledged. If I could give zero stars, I would. I highly recommend staying elsewhere when visiting Matera
