Scenic and relaxing.

The hotel is dated but well-maintained. It overlooks Lake Lugano, and… the view alone is worth the price!
Isolated and therefore very quiet, but it has a bar/restaurant with a terrace that is always well-frequented in the afternoon and evening.
The staff is very efficient and kind: in particular, Luana at the reception is always available and ready to provide answers and suggestions to guests.
Charming lake-view rooms.
Recommended for a few days of relaxation. A car is necessary for getting around to the attractions in the area (Lake Lugano, Balcony of Italy, and Lake Como).

Very bad

Beautiful place bad management very expensive food and scarce portions we went in the company of friends after booking personally on the spot asked if it was set menu they answered no would be a la carte (surprise on day 15 only set menu no possibility of choice very high price for quality and quantity of 45 or 60 euros bottles of wine no less than 35 euros) waiting from 12 until 15 to finish lunch and they did not even bring us the side dishes written on the menu. Definitely will not return and strongly advise against it

Deception.

The restaurant does not belong to the hotel. Stay massively disappointing. The hotel is not responsible for the beautiful things like the view....

Hotel Funicolare Review
The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the location is absolutely wonderful, with a dreamlike view that is definitely the highlight of the hotel.
That said, the hotel itself feels quite dated. The carpet in the room was in need of a deep clean, and the bathroom had not been cleaned to the standard I would expect. The shower and taps were covered in limescale. The corridors and reception area also felt rather old and unwelcoming, and could definitely benefit from some renovation and better maintenance.
Having said all that, the price was fair for what the hotel offers. If you are looking for somewhere to stay for just one night, I think it is a perfectly reasonable choice, especially if you are willing to overlook the dated interiors for that dream view. The location and scenery really are the hotel’s biggest advantages.

Terrible service

I have been there twice, and the outdoor service is nonexistent; I sat for 15 minutes the first time, and 20 minutes the second time without the staff coming to take the order. They have headed down the path to failure.
