Better than I feared, but with some room for improvement.

Before booking, I was rather skeptical, given the conflicting reviews. However, I had guessed that the Superior rooms were the renovated ones and, in fact, I found a recently modernized room that was pleasant overall. The feeling is that the property is gradually renovating its spaces and that some parts still appear a bit dated.
From a four-star hotel, perhaps, I would have expected a bit more attention: a normal hair dryer instead of the classic low-power model fixed to the wall, the refrigerator is present but completely empty, and there isn't even a bottle of water in the room, even though it is offered at the reception anyway (why not put it in the room at this point, especially if it's a superior one?). I would have also appreciated a coffee machine.
Breakfast overall is not bad, with a decent selection of both sweet and savory items, even if not everything was replenished promptly. Overall a positive stay, especially considering the doubts I had before booking, but for a four-star property there is still some room for improvement.

Things seemed off so I waited until…

Things seemed off so I waited until…

We stayed at Hotel Michelangelo, Forli almost 2 months, from 19 August - 15 October 2025. Things seemed off to me as I have worked in the hospitality industry in the USA including lodging, food & beverage, and entertainment & event planning. After staying in several hotels in Forli, Castrocaro, Bologna, Ravenna, Lucca, Florence, and Rome I can say Hotel Michelangelo not only seemed off it was off. They are understaffed.
The employees are all quite nice and friendly it is clear to see they do not have enough help and as a result the hotel is lacking in several areas which I will address later in this review. Elina who works at the front desk in the morning was helpful with suggesting someplace to eat as many places were closed in August. She even called the restaurant to make sure they were open and made a reservation for us. The restaurant , Pizzeria “Del Corso” has excellent food and is in walking distance of the hotel. We have eaten there numerous times and I highly recommend it. She also recommended a good dry cleaners for us to take our winter coats. We were pleased with Lavanderia Harmony and would recommend them. Elina was always pleasant.
Antonio, a perfect gentleman, was very helpful, spoke English, was always well dressed, and ran the front desk with utmost professionalism, in fact I thought he was the manager only to find out later he was not the manager.
The owner is also the manager. I do not remember her name. I do remember she never smiled and seemed very suspicious of everything. but after staying in numerous hotels as stated above, I can see clearly she does not have enough help. There is only one person at the front desk in the afternoon/ evening hours, Antonio who does everything - checking guests in, calling for taxi service, making dinner reservations, taking care of issues with guest rooms, getting needed toiletries, etc. for a hotel of this size that is unheard of. Antonio is a godsend and I can see a dedicated hard worker in an often stressful demanding industry. He also always greeted my Mom and me by name and always made time to talk with us and again spoke to us in English which is not easy to find especially in Forli.
The hotel is in need of some upgrading and basic cleaning. The outside is quite uninviting with dead leaves and debris all around. They have free parking which is a plus if you arrive with a car but the security cameras are not functional. A rental car a guest had parked had damage to the side door and when he asked about security footage was informed it is not in working order. The location is excellent especially if you do not have a car as everything we needed was within walking distance or the bus stop is a short distance away.
The bathroom in the room where we stayed 311 needs an upgrade. The inside of the toilet as you can see in the photos is full of cracks which is quite unsanitary, The AC unit leaks, several outlets are broken, and I nerver saw so many mosquitoes or had been bitten so many times inside a hotel as I did at this hotel. Many dead plants are located in the lobby area and breakfast room after my Mom was bitten by a spider in the breakfast room we ate our breakfast in our room. Some type of pest control and cleanup is needed.
The housekeepers are pleasant and very nice but they do not have an adequate number of housekeepers. A hotel of this size should have a much bigger housekeeping staff and at least two people at the front desk. The restaurant is only open in the evening. Food was good, We ate in the hotel restaurant a few times until I found a hair in my food.
The owner/manager of the hotel also runs the restaurant.. I showed it to her, she apologized and wanted to get me another one or something else if I wanted but I declined as it made me nauseous and I could not fathom eating anything else. We did not eat here again after that. I was surprised when I went to pay the bill she actually charged me a discounted price for my meal with the hair in it which I had barely eaten before seeing the hair.
The owner/manager gave us a discounted rate since we were staying for a long period of time as we were trying to find an apartment rental. Compared to other hotels we have stayed in for a long period of time it really was not much of discount but was appreciated.
We were grateful to be able to extend our stay based on finding an apartment.
Antonio, Federico, and Allison tried to help us find an apartment.
Antonio also helped us with understanding required documents neded to do so. He even offered to accompany us to city hall on his day off if we needed help. We are very grateful and appreciative of Antonio.
However would I stay at this hotel again - NO
Would I recommend this hotel - NO - but I would highly recommend Antonio as an outstanding, polite, caring, trust worthy, English speaking, dedicated, hard working professional individual and My Mom and me were very pleased to meet him and we both wish to thank him for all he did for us. He truly went above and beyond the job description.
Thank you and God bless you Antonio.

Great location but dated rooms

The location is excellent, a stone's throw from the central Piazza della Vittoria, courteous and professional staff, however for a 4 star I expected something better. Dated rooms and bathroom without any kind of heating; small shower cubicle with courtesy service at the edge of the essentials. Room and bathroom 80/90s that need modernization.

Not up to 4 stars

The hotel is discreet and well located, but not up to the four stars declared.
The room we stayed in was simple, without particular comfort, more three stars than four. The bathroom could definitely use some improvement.
Breakfast sufficient, not very varied.
A plus point goes to the receptionists: good, kind and prepared.
