Value for money and happy stay

Our family planned visit to SABARIMALA AYYAPPA Temple and booked 3rooms at Hotel Priya Chengannur via online. My aged parents accompany this time to Ayyapa swami temple nd our rooms confirmed at Hotel Priya. We found renovated rooms with decent facilities and Great vegetarian food. Smoking and liquor banned and staff supports us great to have successfully visit to swami shrine.im expressing my experience as my review and nothing will be 100% in this world. Swami AYYAPPA...

Not worth a stay here

We booked 2 AC rooms and stayed for a day here. Rooms are very small. Restrooms are not clean. This hotel does not have separate entrance for BAR / Restaurant and Guest rooms. Too much expensive for the room size. Restaurant attached is not restaurant as such, it a BAR. Need to go near to Bus stand to get good Veg food. 300 Mtrs from Bus stand and 1 KM from Railway station. 1 KM from Mahadevar temple. Not recommended hotel. there are other good choices available. Though the Hotel Web site claims as 2 Star hotel, it is mere a lodge.

Please speak to people before paying advance.

I, including my wife, stayed in this hotel for two days from 15th Feb 2015 evening to 17th Feb 2015. I opted for this hotel based on my expectation that an old property would be conscious of providing the basic services. But, I regretted for getting carried away by their website claims.
The hotel was too bad for words. The rooms were very stuffy with a window for formality’s sake. It opens out to the dirty roofs of other properties around it. The room was infested with flying cockroaches that denied us sleep as they kept crawling on us and around our bed the whole night. The intercom was out of order on the both the days and we had to walk down two floors all the time to ask for even basic needs. The lift was out of function and I had to carry my two suitcases to the 2nd floor on the 15th and carry them down on the day of checking out. My luggage was very heavy as we were on a ten day trip in Kerala, including our onward tour to Alleppey for a backwater stay at Bamboo Lagoon. The TV in the room was just a box since it was not even accepting power to get started. The hotel runs a liquor joint in the ground floor, killing the family atmosphere, which made my wife very scary to lodge in the hotel right from day one. It was all the more frightening on the 16th to stay in this property, as I had to leave at 2.45 am for Sabarimalai. Much as I would have preferred to move out of this hotel opting to forfeit the room rents which Mr. Babu took in advance, I was too short of time on the 15th since I Ieft early and on the 16th as I was late to return from Sabarimalai. On the 17th morning before I checked out, I made it a point to discretely check with other people who were staying in the hotel and realized that the hotel authority had given similar treatment to all of them.
Please, please check with your contacts before paying your advance. This hotel typically goes full, like any other hotel here, during the Sabarimalai season. The Sabarimalai season is every month once a week and also for long stretch from mid-Nov to the second-last week of Jan. During this time the pilgrims do not actually look for any comfort of stay or food. Their only aim is to get a shelter and move on to the holy mountain at the earliest possible. Hotel Priya takes total advantage of this mind-set of the pilgrims and saddles their unsuspecting patrons with disservice.
I am shocked that Hotel Priya makes deceitful claims (in its website) of itself to be the 1. The epitome of Kerala’s hospitality 2. The pride of Chengannur 3. The provider of multitude of services 4. The giver of overwhelming lodging experience, etc.
