A Breathtaking riverside terrace and hearty cuisine

We have visited the Havelschloss during our river cruise for an unwinding afternoon of freshly brewed teas and ice cream dishes after a long leg followed by a dinner that could be served outside as well as inside. The Schloss has been lovingly restored to house a boutique hotel and the restaurant is both authentic and offering a fresh approach to the traditional dishes. All mains came nicely presented, whether fish or meat, and tasted delightful. A bit more variety of the sides would have been nice but the quality and freshness of the produce was great. A party of 6 had a two course meal and coffees in under 75 minutes with the place being relatively busy.

Difficult to rate

I find it difficult to write a review for this Hotel. My husband had booked as a surprise to me - romantic holiday. The settig is romantic even in winter. However, there were a few things that i just did not understand: We had a suite - living room with seating area - quite nice to look at - with a kitchenette that included even a microwave, stovetop, frig and sink - all of this but only two coffee cups with two teaspoons in the cupboards? We did not need the kitchen at all but it just seemed very odd. The bedroom was small but sufficient again with plenty of closet space. The bed was unfortunately not ver comfortable (too soft for me) therefore I did not sleep well. On the other hand it was really nice and quiet at all times and the view from the windows was really nice and enjoyable. I can imagine that the gardens with its seating areas by the Havel can be lovely in the summer but all in all the grounds need some care - as does the Hotel (except for the restaurant). Hotel staff were friendly, staff in the restaurant very nice and the two dinners we had were good. Breakfast was also good.

A bed and breakfast in a lovely setting

This doesn't seem like a hotel as there's no restaurant nor bar. There's a good Italian restaurant just round the corner and a selection of the usual places in the town. We had a mini suite with lots of space and a kitchenette (not well equipped) and wifi worked well in the room (we had asked for that at booking). The grounds needed lots of care and attention and gave the whole place a sense of being rundown, or at least that it's struggling. A shame because the setting by the river Havel is superb.
Note that reception isn't often manned so you must ring a mobile for service.

Peaceful waterside location

The Havelschloss is a beautiful building in a calm waterside setting and was a welcome sight at the end of a long day's cycling. We were warmly greeted by the owner Anne-Marie who showed us to our "small" (actually large) and bigger (very large) rooms. The day was very warm and Anne-Marie had given us rooms to both reduce the impact of the heat and rooms which were adjacent as we were two couples travelling together - this was a thoughtful touch. Our room was very clean with an excellent, large bathroom. Service was very friendly and helpful and unlike some places we stayed at directions back to our cycle route the following morning were accurate. The hearty breakfast provided us with a good start to a long day's cycling. This was a very good, value for money overnight stop. We had only planned one night but the location and service is such that it would be nice to spend a little longer at Havelschloss. Thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone cycling the Copenhagen-Berlin Radweg.

Excellent location
