Very nice hotel in a historic setting

Stayed here for one night on a cycle touring trip on the Elbe. The town is lovely and our hotel was situated on the main street. We were in the annexe but this was not really a problem. We had dinner in the hotel and it was really nice; friendly and helpful staff and a lovely ambience. Breakfast was good and very reasonably priced. There was parking for our bikes but not in a secure garage.

Very nice stay at this historic hotel

I spent a few nights in the Schwarzer Adler in June 2018 and my experience was quite nice. I had never been to Stendal before, but chose to stay here on the the recommendation of a colleague in the area. I have to say that I enjoyed my time in Stendal and at the hotel.
Location is right in the middle of town. A block away from one of the main squares, a market square right in front of the building, and a shopping and restaurant walking street a few blocks away and tons of cafe's everywhere. The down side is the village is quite old, so the narrow cobblestone roads were being repaired with a few blocked roads made finding the hotel a bit hard to locate even with a sat-nav (gps).
Accommodations: The building apparently started in 1650, so history is on its side. I didn't really notice the hotel age because it had all been updated, but some odd steps here and there made it a little unusual. I had a single with two double beds pushed together. Smaller blankets with only 2 pillows in the room that were on the flat side. The room was right on the street.. With the windows open you could hear everything and everyone coming and going. They are aware of this and provide ear plugs as a solution.
Some parking is available, but only a few spots. It was never an issue, but seems like it could be.
Breakfasts were terrific. Fresh eggs, meat, and bread selections along with all kinds of other goodies.
Restaurant and bar on site were pretty tasty as well. Only a few options, but they were all quite good. Also, they have a nice outdoor rooftop patio that apparently hosts parties all the time. This could be the reason you stay or could be a reason to avoid it depending on your preferences.
Staff was all fantastic. I didn't encounter a single issue with any staff on site. They were all helpful, friendly, and many spoke English. It seems like the same people work all the time, because we only saw a few people over the course of our stay.
If I am ever back in the area I would happily stay here again. Give it a try and Happy Travels!

Restaurant: Traditional Name, uninspired as the rest

We came here with a party of thirty hungry Berliners who were looking for a nice x-mas lunch. We ordered traditionell goose breast and geese club. The clubs were okay but served just with very salty kale and cold dumplings. The breast was very small and served with red cabbage and and also very salty sauce. The service was okay, but the cook did not like to talk to us, as we complained abou the food. The price was to high for what was offered.
The seating was also vey poor, an uninspired room with cheap chairs covered with not so clean chair covers.
Sorry, but I can not recommend this from the outside real nice place. Take a look at the fassade and then have a nice cup of tea at the nearby "Kaffeekult". Much more enjoyable.
Take notice, that we did not stay here, we just visited the restaurant.

Stendal nightstop

Almost fully booked due "dancehall evening", so we got one of the last rooms on the top floor, with ceiling windows, but we could see the street from the bathroom. However the room was very quiet and large and we slept well. Nice lively cocktail bar, free parking facilities, and free wifi. Around the corner from the main shopping street and on the market square. Friendly young staff. Breakfast could have been a bit better supplied, with some hot items, only hardboiled cold eggs now. Nice hotel, but missing a bit of personal touch.

Basic

Stayed here on Business in Feb 2013, found the room and facilities to be very basic. The 'cocktail' bar is not open during the day and the hotel does not offer Wi-Fi. The location is fantastic as it is based in the Central Square with plenty of little Cafe's around to enjoy. Stendal is a small town and apart from some interesting architecture there is generally not much to do or see.
The hotel was fine for a one night stay but I would not stay there again and only recommend it to those who would be happy to settle for basic facilities.
