Good for a stay for one night
Breakfast times explained. The restaurant was closed that Friday. We didn't mind, we had dinner in town anyway. If you didn't it's more of a problem because the hotel is a bit outside and good restaurants are not nearby.
The room was a good size and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was
clean as anything in the room. Breakfast was rich and of good quality.

A field report
We had reserved a table for 6 people (3 couples) for dinner today, Saturday, 14.02.2026 in the restaurant Birkenhof, Von-Eiff-Str. 37, 63456 Hanau-Steinheim.
We put two gourmet blocks on the table and I explicitly pointed out to Mrs. K. before our order that we want to use gourmet block vouchers - one for the offer "4:2" for 4 people and one for the offer "2:1", which offered us the cheaper main courses free of charge.
It was also asked from our ranks whether the gourmet block applied to the Valentine's Day menu, which was, as expected and absolutely understandably, denied - but we had not read in the redemption conditions before that Valentine's Day, although it is not an official holiday, was excluded (nostra culpa). At this time at the latest, however, we should have been informed by the service. That did NOT happen.
Then we chose six different main courses from the normal menu. We also ordered two bottles of water, about twelve drinks, three starters and three desserts - assuming to use the gourmet block.
The food tasted good to us, we had a nice evening and then ordered the two bills. Since the beverage allocation to the two invoices/payers was probably not recorded and was also no longer requested, the receipts were not correct in this regard (the 100% discount for the free main courses was noted, however).
After we asked for correction, Mrs. K. came back and told us that the vouchers would not apply today, this was on the restaurant's homepage - which could not be verified after a short online check.
We then demanded to speak to the manager, who unfortunately was not on site, then the restaurant manager. Mr. N. came to the table and confirmed Ms. K.'s testimony. He said that we should have pointed out the gourmet block when making the reservation - which according to the
Terms and conditions of the gourmet block are expressly not required. Then he mentioned Christmas, Easter and holidays as excluded dates. At that time, however, we all did not know that Valentine's Day was also mentioned in the exclusion dates, and I regret to say that I only found out afterwards, for which I am sorry.
The fact remains that we were NOT advised of this regulation when ordering and have ordered in good faith the Validket. In hindsight, some of us would have chosen differently (especially towards the special menus) if we had known. We certainly wouldn't have left the restaurant with appropriate professional communication.
When it was announced by some of us that we would publish and spread this negative experience on social media, Mr. N. - he said - felt "threatened" by us - although we did not physically or verbally attack him personally - and exercised his right to house and banned us all.
We picked up the tab, picked it up with gallows humor, having been banned from housekeeping for the first time in all our lives (which, after all, already lasted between 55 and 70 years), and left the location. Understandably, I responded to the "goodbye" with "guaranteed not."
Mistakes can happen - but this happened here on both sides. The fact that only we as paying guests have to bathe them alone, unfortunately, shows little sovereignty and goodwill of the restaurant management. Surely a better solution could have been found here than six bruised guests with stay-at-home orders.
My evaluation is solely about service behavior,
for the food I would have awarded 4/5 points/stars.

Wonde!rful stay. Best dinner of entire trip
It was a short 5 minute walk to town center where we enjoyed the quaint atmosphere and outdoor relaxing eateries. The next evening we ate at the hotel and were so happy that we did. The meal was absolutely delicious and the restaurant was totally full. The rack of lamb and the shrimp were simply outstandingly prepared.
Our grandchildren thoroughly enjoy running and playing in the the grassy areas and we even collected fallen walnuts. Rooms were spacious, clean and welcoming. Reception lady was most helpful. Would definitely return.
