Positively surprised
The Mercure chain is not known for special hotels, and the branch in Hamm is no exception at first. 80s architecture and interior, all rather petite and functional. The rooms are large and well insulated, the service largely very friendly, the parking garage is in the house and can be paid for by the bill and there is also a restaurant. All in all really okay!

I booked this hotel through CHECK24, specifically because of the advertised air conditioning, as the first warm days had already arrived and I was consciously looking for an air-conditioned room due to the temperature.
Unfortunately, the air conditioning in my first room did not work at all. Additionally, the blackout curtain was damaged and was hanging down partially. I reported this directly at the reception in the morning. However, when I returned in the evening, nothing had been fixed.
As a result, I received another room that was even smaller than the originally booked one. However, the "air conditioning" there also did not work. After another complaint, a staff member finally came to the room and merely adjusted the ventilation. It continued to not cool, but only circulated air. In the room, the temperatures remained at about 23–24 degrees, which was personally too warm for me to sleep.
The next morning, another staff member finally explained to me openly that it was not a real air conditioning system, but merely a ventilation system, and that there were regular complaints because of this.
This is exactly the decisive point for me: If a hotel is explicitly advertised with air-conditioned rooms, then I expect actual cooling and not just ventilation.
I therefore left the hotel early after two nights. Of the originally paid €344.56 for four nights, €195 was refunded to me. Additionally, the parking fees were completely waived. I consider this a positive aspect of the hotel.
Nevertheless, the overall impression remained that the problem was already well known at the hotel, but it was not initially communicated openly to guests.

Typical business hotel not far from the pedestrian area
The overnight stay at this Mercure was all in all positive.
The room was not bad, clean, with room to work and store luggage. The bathroom is small and the sink is not exactly functional.
Breakfast is standard, without praise but also without infamy.
In addition to the big screen, the bar also offers an excellent Grevensteiner Dunkel.
There is the possibility to park a van in the parking reserved for buses.

No AC on the room but with the cool weather, i was able to use the fan and opened the window, until the noisy construction started tk wake you up.
They promised to look into the AC but noone came to give me an update if the ac was indeed broken or if they had fixed it (still used outside air and fan to avoid disappointment)
Breakfast was the same thing everyday.
No wifi and poor cell service in my room 307. I had to work from the lobby so i can get wifi for my laptop and to get on zoom calls. Very inconvenient

not worth repeating
Positive : Nice hotel , friendly staff downstairs at the entrance - Basic bed - Negative : Lots of carpet, dog smell in the room unhygienic - For 4 stars? Kei expensive parking ? difficult to reach by car - No safe and Minibar small TV .Very warm room , Aircon worked non- Sunday was breakfast ok , In the week Monday Breakfast and service totally substandard , No eggs?? Lots and lots of salt in the food, Very poor not topped up, 3 day old black bacon , Substandard and nothing topped up.
