Lovingly run with very good Service

Great location (fast in Bamberg and yet in the middle of nature). Simple, very clean rooms with wonderful towels. Very good breakfast. We were Fri-Sun (10-12. Oct 25) there. Very good Service.

any comfort left much to be desired

The heating was cold when the outside temperature was 4 degrees. Based on our experience, the price-performance ratio was not convincing.
The lady of the house was friendly and reserved.

A Good budget stay in Bamberg

We spent two nights here. Its certainly not luxury but it was good value for the 72 euros per night.
Hotel is in the outskirts of Bamberg...its taxi ( 15 euros approx ow ), bus (bus stop by hotel) or walk into Bamberg. The walk is flat, along the river. Its very scenic, walks are well maintained and takes 30 minutes ow. We did rt twice...helps work off the potatoe dumplings.
We had room 1...up 2 flights of stairs....compact to say the least...twin beds, small closet, desk with 2 chairs...nice view to the river. En suite Bathroom is VERY small...shower,sink and toilet. I could not sit straight on toilet. Good water pressure and lots of hot water...note that many rooms do not have en suite plumbing...bath and toilet are down the hall and are shared. Room and bathroom were very clean and are cleaned daily.
Free wifi in room..adequate speed. Free parking across the road. Breakfast was OK....yougurt, fruit, cold cuts, cheese, cereal....standard. We ate dinner there one night...German and Thai....schnitzl was good as was the Thai curry.....restaurant closes at 1800 on Sunday. Hotel has nice beer garden...well treed...serves very nice cakes.
Owner very helpful...speaks very good English.....booked taxi for us and had good suggestions on what to see etc.
Probably not the place for everyone due to location, stairs and lack of en suites but it worked for us for the two nights...it was a good value .....

A great find

A little lost with diversions trying to get to Bamberg on a Sunday afternoon, we drove into the little town of Bug, and looked for somewhere to eat. On the advice of locals we went to the end of the street where we found this little eaterie with car park close to a fork in the Regnitz river. On this sunny day in May it was an ideal place to eat outside, with the locals out for a Sunday meal, cycling on the paths along the side of the river or walking in the forest. A truly magical location, and good food too - honest local fare, nothing too exciting, and a most welcome break.
As an hotel it didn't look too exciting, but we didn't stay as we were en route to Regensburg.

We keep coming back

We found this hotel in 1988 - it was in the Michelin Red Guide - and have stayed there 5 or 6 times since. The core of the building was the hunting lodge for the local Prince-Bishops. Klaus & Kate Lieb operate the small, three-storey hotel & restaurant (with outdoor cafe in good weather). The restaurant serves German & Thai dishes (Kate is Thai), and is decorated in appropriate hunting-lodge style.
Many of the rooms are antiquated, but this is changing: when we were there last (Dec 2011), renovations were under way for 6 or 8 of the rooms. Our traveling companions had a lovely, large room with a large bath; we opted for a less-expensive room, with toilet & shower down the hall.
Right beside the river, it is a quiet location. A 30-minute walk, a lot of it through a wooded park area, gets you to the center of Bamberg, and there is a bus stop right out the front door. Sufficient off-street parking. (Credit cards are not accepted.)

Very good location
