Lunch with champions

We had lunch with very special people Nicolo Melli and Nicos Zisis on the eve of the playoff final. So the company was excellent, but the food even more . I am Italian and I am not so keen on eating Italian food when I am abroad because it is often disappointing. Well, I was really wrong! Food was delicious ; fresh, homemade , very tasty! We had "stria", bruschette, gnocchi and different types of "ravioli" that is fresh stuffed pasta.
The restaurant is not in the centre, but easy to get and with a private parking. I strongly advise a visit!

A little out of way

But reasonably priced. Samberg seem to be expensive near and on weekends. Smallish rooms, OK beds, very clean, free parking, free good breakfast with cold meats, cheeses, yoghurt and more. Two charming young German women checked us in.

Nice rooms, good beers

Rooms are quite nice and breakfast was quite big.
The hotel produces and sells its own beer and it is actually much better than the one you can purchase in Italy store (this beer is sold in Italy).
Waitress was really nice and she helped to get the city centre visited.
The Restaurant is Italian; we didn't eat anything, but the owner is Italian, so I guess you may give it a try.

Rustic hotel, but impersonal service

The reviews on this hotel says it's family run. We were greeted by a women who was ok in greeting but not over welcoming. Rooms are very clean with lovely fresh smelling towels. A very interesting rustic hotel with court yard and restaurant which did get busy. We had been travelling in the car most of the day so didn't mind the long walk into Bamberg, getting an ice cream on the way. When we returned to the hotel it was busy in the beer garden with restaurant customers. We had a drink and retired to bed. The only let down for us was no shower gel/shampoo available but only hand wash. Also no greeting when we arrived for breakfast but soon gathered it was totally help yourself. Did see a lady speeding around the restaurant. We had to ask for more hot water from the help yourself table and the orange juice was not refilled and the other juice had flies floating in it. However, boiled eggs were excellent. If we were passing again we would probably try the restaurant as being busy is a good sign, but unfortunately probably not stay over.

Nothing special, and out of the way, but well-priced

The "Brauerei Gasthof and Hotel Kaiserdom" not all that close to its namesake brewery nor to its namesake church. It's 2-3 miles both from the main part of the city and from the train station. Means you're taking a cab back and forth to and from either of those destinations (easy to call one in Bamberg; as of September '13 cost about 11 euros each way).
Even with those extra costs added in, the rate we got made it cost-effective to stay here.
Totally typical European hotel from the '60s or 70s - small room, Spartan beds, tiny bathroom, passable breakfast. Overall quite clean. Free Internet is nice, with good signal strength and speed in our room.
Not the ideal place for the casual visitor to Bamberg, but by no means a disaster.
