Our favorite stay in France!

After visiting Oradour we drove to the B&B. Maealice and Rod were so delightful and the dinner was the best we had in France! She is an amazing chef and the ambiance cannot be beat. This was our favorite meal and the wine was perfect though we overindulged. The rooms were comfortable even without A/C in the heat of summer. We were traveling with another couple and the welcoming drink and dinner were a blast. We walked to the lake the next morning 3.5 miles to get fresh air and burn some calories before our sumptuous breakfast. It was hard to leave such a pleasant place.

Staying here was the highlight of our trip!

A lovely place, near les lacs de Haute-Charente. Most interesting and comfortable house and our en suite bedroom was perfect. Maelisa is a delightful host and cooked us the best dinner we have eaten in a long time. 4 courses with wine, but commencing with an aperitif as well. Maelisa has a pretty kitchen garden and keeps poultry , using a lot of her homegrown produce in her cooking-elderflower cordial in the gin-based pre-dinner drink, accompanied by tiny quails eggs on blinis and so it went on....also extremely good value for money. We will recommend to friends.

If you’re looking for great hospitality, gorgeous surroundings and French charm ….

We’ve just had a very special but all-too-short break here. We did not want to leave.
The location is great; good for walking & cycling, but you do need a car if you want to explore more of the area. Oradour-sur-Glane is about half an hour away, and many beautiful châteaux. There’s a lake nearby for fishing and swimming. We flew to Bordeaux (2 hr drive) but next time we’ll fly to Limoges which is much closer.
We received a very warm family-like welcome from the hosts and their children. The house has an undeniable French charm, which also compliments their souvenirs and artefacts from Africa and around the world - the hosts are interesting, well-travelled, well informed and are very good company. We stayed in the main house, all rooms are en-suite and ours was lovely, overlooking the garden. As well as the main house, there is a separate gîte where you can stay and enjoy your own garden and a bit more privacy. We arrived on a sunny April afternoon and as the sun shone into the early evening, we chose to have our glorious French supper in the garden, a glass of local rosé in hand; it couldn’t be more French!
Breakfasts were marvellous – French breads and croissants, homemade jams and honey, fresh eggs and really good coffee, amongst other delights. Evening dinners at the house are optional, but I would recommend that you do it (at least once) because Maelisa the cook (and owner) is amazing. She serves up a delicious and wonderful variety including starters, main course, fabulous local cheese and desserts – and always an aperitif with the hosts before dinner.
The garden was just coming to blossom, and we’re planning to return later in the season to see the cherry trees and wisteria in bloom. We were told that the surrounding areas offer some beautiful scenery of sunflowers, wild flowers and lavender. Sounds like picture postcard stuff doesn’t it? Well I think I’ve said enough, if I wax too lyrical about it all, Les Trois Chênes will get so booked up we won’t be able to get in!

Wonderful stay. Lovely family, lovely rooms and fabulous food.

This was a lovely Guest House. The family who own it were lovely and the happy children were a delight. ( So well mannered and great fun) Our rooms were beautiful and the lounge was very welcoming, with a log burning on the fire. We love animals and were delighted to meet the family's well behaved and friendly pets.
We had dinner during our stay and it was amazing. There were two vegetarians in our group and we all agreed that it was the best meal we had had throughout our holiday. Lovingly prepared with local produce and beautifully served with wine and soft drinks included in the price. Breakfast was equally good.
Of all the places we stayed, this was our favourite and was much less expensive than any of the others.
We would definitely return here.
