Restorative experience

This ex monastery has been restored extremely well and our rooms were simply furnished but immaculate and had beautiful views. Our welcome on an extremely hot evening was very caring and were were immediately served with ice tea and then given frozen icepops to help cool us down. There was no air conditioning in the rooms but because of the very thick walls and the fact they had kept the windows closed meant the rooms were surprisingly cool. They do not offer meals apart from breakfast, but this was very copious with cereals, cold meats and cheese, croissants, bread & jam, fruit and compote. We were given very helpful tips what to do and where to eat and we found all the staff to be extremely friendly. There are still several rooms there for the monks who look after the adjoining basilica (well worth the visit - as is the 'chemin de croix' and the cemetery wit Toulouse Lautrec's grave) - this may account for the peaceful aura that permeates throughout this wonderful building and cloister. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to escape the humdrum of life!

Surprisingly good.

Cheap accommodation and value for money. Nice people working there, helpful and serviceminded. Very good breakfast. Try the local cheese! The room and bathroom was clean. A beautiful church is the nearest neighbour.

Day 1 of Operation Frankton

This hostel is actually a monastic retreat, so do NOT expect to receive alcohol on the premises. Nonetheless, our welcome could not have been better; the rooms comfortable, quiet and extremely reasonably sized. Would definitely recommend. Our host could not do enough for us. Merci, monsieur!

Cycle stop

A very interesting place to stay - used for retreats etc - old convent - clean, good bathroom and bed. A nice village, cemetery has Toulouse Lautrec's grave...with at least one excellent restaurant. Breakfast was not free. Lovely and quiet.

Basic but lovely accommodation

We spent a night in Verdelais at the Hostellerie. The whole site is lovely, well maintained and very clean. Our family room had four single beds and was fine, though not at all luxurious. It's a good functional option and very well located, right next to the Basilica.
No restaurants open in Verdelais on Monday nights so come prepared.
Staff very friendly and helpful, and a little shop to buy wine, jams and honey (even if you're not staying).

Excellent location
