Overall, I had a very nice stay. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The hostel is, as its name suggests, very central and easy to reach from the train station. The rooms, bathrooms, and showers were clean, though the first night, the bathroom on my floor was out of order, and the women's showers lacked hooks for hanging clothing and towels. It appeared that they were doing work on those spaces, so it may not be an issue in the future. The other people in my rooms (a mixed sex room the first night and an all-women room for the four following nights) were very nice and considerate. I would recommend Central Hostel as a pleasant and budget-conscious way to visit Bordeaux.

Extremely disappointing experience: lack of transparency, lack of responsibility, and disrespect toward a guest.
My personal toiletries disappeared twice from the shared bathroom. The first time, my bag was later found in the housekeeping storage area, even though reception initially told me they had no information and did not properly investigate. The second time, after 5 p.m., several products disappeared again. One bottle was later found inside the pocket of a stranger’s shorts in the shower area.
Instead of taking the situation seriously, the response from staff was repeatedly: “It’s not our responsibility,” along with explanations about how I should not leave my things there. Rather than helping to understand what happened, the focus was on blaming the guest.
When I asked for basic transparency and requested that the cameras be checked, the director refused. After that, she ordered me to leave the place — not as a respectful checkout process, but in a way that felt dismissive and humiliating.
This is not about the price of a few used products. It is about safety, trust, and how a hostel treats a guest when something goes wrong. A place where belongings disappear and management refuses to properly investigate does not create a feeling of security.

A modest, clean and centrally located well run youth hostel. The plaza just in front seems to attract some weird people. Do not mind this, they are doing their thing and din’t bother anyone. Very close to tons of shops and restaurants. Beds were confortable, temperature was fine. It may be a bit difficult for some folks to get into the top bunks. Lobby area was welcoming and comfortable. Showers were ok, good warm water with decent pressure. I would recommend for a solo trip b

Good experience at Central Hostel.

Very welcoming staff; both the dish and the breakfast were perfect. I really enjoyed my stay; the atmosphere in the dorms and common areas was pleasant.
One small point for improvement: the communal showers and toilets could have been a bit cleaner. But that will not prevent me from keeping a very good memory of this hotel.

Deplorable

A shame. We arrive at 10 for a drink and clearly feel like we are disturbing. Table not cleared, waiter not motivated when you just ask to settle... it ends up cleaning without any desire.
And the best part: when ordering, several customers wait while the gentleman prefers to talk quietly with his friend rather than do his job.
As a result: immediate U-turn, and fortunately the bar opposite, he knows what “service” means.
