A male member of staff let himself into my room with the pass card. I was in bed at the time. There was nowhere to lock your things in the room, so if I wasn’t in, I’m sure he would have helped himself to them. The female manager and male receptionist laughed in my face when I went down shaking from the experience. As a woman travelling alone I felt completely unsafe and at risk. When I complained to Hotels.com they equated my safety to a $5 voucher to use with them. I will NEVER book with them again. Apparently when they spoke to Heron Hotel, they denied it happened - even though I recorded the conversation - and they refused a refund, meaning I had to spend a horrible night at the hotel before I could leave the next day. The picture shows what I had to do to remotely try and protect myself and my belongings that night. It also took 4 room changes to get a room with hot water the night I checked in. Completely unacceptable, disgusting, disgraceful behaviour

A TOTAL DIASTER!
Then my stay became a disaster. It started with the electricity. It went out without any notice. But this happens often in Africa, so I was pacient. But not three days in a row. The electricity came back the first day, but it went out again several times. Ok.
The next day it disappered most of the day and night. I had to use my mobile to find my room in the darkness, on the fourth floor with the lift out of order. In the reception, I was told that this was due to a problem in the whole area. But the light was on in all the neigboring buildings. The manager of the hotel did not give me any new information. On the next day he told me that the problem was due to a broken transformator.
On the third day both the electricity and the water disappered early in the morning. I had stopped eating my breakfast and other meals at the hotel since a proper washing up in the kitchen was not possible. The people working in the hotel told me that the owner in Addis Ababa did not know about things like this and that the manager did not tell him about such problems when he visited the hotel.
Therefore, this message is to the owner: The management of this hotel lacked all the necessary skills: Instead, there were no communications with the guests about the problems, no excuses and no reductions of the bill.
Keep away from this hotel!
